We are a welcoming group of people seeking to follow Jesus and make the world a better place. As a mainline (not fundamentalist) church, we wrestle with scripture and tradition to develop an intellectually honest faith in a postmodern context. So bring your questions, hurts, hopes, and dreams and join us as we walk together and experience the healing and transformative presence of God. Lighthouse

There are few things more painful than loving someone who feels far away.
Maybe it's a child who no longer calls, a parent who has grown distant, a friendship that ended badly, or someone you care about who seems unreachable emotionally, physically, or spiritually.
Many of us know the ache of unanswered texts, missed holidays, awkward conversations, and wondering if a relationship will ever be restored.
This week, I reflected on Jesus' parable of the Prodigal Son and what it means to keep the porch light on when someone you love is far away. The challenge is learning how to keep our hearts open without trying to control another person's journey home.
I also created a companion 5-Day Devotional to help you pray, reflect, and hold on to hope throughout the week.

When Someone You Love Is Far Away: Keeping the Porch Light On There are few things more painful than silence from someone you love. Whether it’s a child, parent, spouse, sibling, or friend, distance can leave us wondering if reconciliation is possible. …
Have you ever loved someone who feels far away?
Maybe it's a child who no longer calls, a parent you've grown distant from, a strained marriage, a broken friendship, or someone whose choices have led to a painful separation. In this heartfelt message from Luke 15:11–24, Pastor Mark explores the Parable of the Prodigal Son from a fresh perspective—not only through the eyes of the son who wandered away, but through the eyes of the father who never stopped loving him.
Through personal stories, biblical insight, and practical wisdom, this sermon offers hope for anyone carrying the ache of a fractured relationship. Discover what it means to "leave the porch light on"—to love with grace, maintain healthy boundaries, resist the urge to control, and trust God even when reconciliation seems uncertain.
No matter how far away someone may feel, this message reminds us that love can remain open, hope can endure, and God is still at work in distant places.
