We're proud to introduce you to Chanel Newsome, MBA, CFRE. Chanel is a Baltimore native with over 25 years of fundraising experience in higher education, healthcare, and faith-based organizations. Chanel currently serves as Director of Development for Annual and Planned Giving at Morgan State University and is deeply committed to strengthening communities through donor-centric fundraising and service.

Baltimore was recently ranked the 2nd most stressed city in the U.S. (WalletHub). When stress is the backdrop, conflict resolution is the skill that matters most.

The Conflict Resolution Center of Baltimore County believes every person is capable of resolving their own conflicts -- and that everyone deserves access to high-quality conflict resolution services to do it. Through community mediation and community conferencing, CRCBC provides residents across Baltimore County with a safe and structured way to resolve conflicts.

But that access depends on financial support from our community.

Meet Annette!

Annette Romero has been a Community Conferencing Facilitator with CRCBC since 2014, and the path that brought her here is one worth knowing.

Originally from the Philippines, Annette lived in Europe before moving to the US in 2002, where she spent years working with overseas migrant workers on their socio-economic needs.

Today, she brings that same dedication to the families of Baltimore County, working directly with communities to make sure no one has to navigate conflict alone.

When she's not doing that work, you might find her advocating for the animals who can't speak for themselves — because caring deeply is just who Annette is.

Great schools know when to call in the neutrals.

The Conflict Resolution Center of Baltimore County partners with Baltimore County Public Schools because when conflict between students goes unaddressed, it doesn't stay at school. It follows kids home, into neighborhoods, and back through the doors in September.

This year, we received 379 referrals from Baltimore County Public Schools. We answered every single one.

Most crises don't start as crises.

They start as unresolved conflicts between students, neighbors, and families. Without intervention, small disputes become suspensions, estrangements, and worse.

The Conflict Resolution Center of Baltimore County provides conflict resolution services that interrupt that cycle. We work directly in communities to equip people with the tools to de-escalate, communicate, and repair relationships.

This work is essential. And it depends on community support.

Baltimore County Public Schools referred 379 cases to us last year. That's two referrals for every day of the school year and a clear signal of how under-resourced schools are when it comes to conflict resolution.

Teachers are managing full classrooms, compliance requirements, and the emotional needs of dozens of students at once. Structured, multi-party conflict resolution requires time and specialized training that most schools simply don't have.

The Conflict Resolution Center of Baltimore County exists to fill that gap. Our facilitators spend roughly 10 hours preparing each case before anyone sits down in the same room. The result: a 96% resolution rate, sustained six months later.

When conflict goes unresolved, it doesn't stay in school, it spreads into families and communities and can persist for years.

Meet Ashley!

Ashley Fox walked through our doors as an intern in 2021 and has been a core part of the CRCBC family ever since. As a Community Conferencing Facilitator, Ashley brings real expertise (M.S. in Conflict Management, B.A. in Sociology) and real heart to every case she touches.

Her favorite part of the job is helping people in the Baltimore community find their voice, and use it! Outside of work, she really values quality time with friends and family.

We’re grateful that she’s one of the faces behind the work!
