New York City schools have increased compliance of their special education students’ services, but they are not at 100%.

Almost daily I review IEPs or I am in teams where students are not receiving appropriate services. Their needs are not being met. What more can we do to ensure these students receive what they require to close their learning gap?

NYC has roughly 224,000 students with special needs — a population larger than Houston’s entire public school system.

This is an interesting article regarding possible over diagnosis of ADHD. As a teacher, parent and advocate I have seen when this diagnosis is appropriate and correct. And I have seen it not be correct.

“According to the most recent Education Department data, 122,000 students across the country were subject to restraint or seclusion during the 2015-2016 academic year.”

I’ve been to many schools in the area where the staff’s training for appropriate restraint has expired.
In my opinion, this is an issue that absolutely needs to be investigated. What do you think?
