For the past six weeks, three active Dairy Cattle Club members, Cait O'Sullivan, Elsie Donlick, and Elizabeth Schieferstine participated in the U.S. Dairy Education & Training Consortium in Clovis, New Mexico.

During the program, they toured dairies across New Mexico and West Texas while learning from professors representing various universities, as well as some of the most knowledgeable industry professionals from across the country. Topics covered through the program were:
- Herd overview and dynamics
-Finance
-Nutrition
-Reproduction
-New technologies and the future of the dairy industry
-Labor management
-Safety and compliance
-Calf and youngstock management

In addition to expanding their knowledge, these girls had the opportunity to connect with 64 other participating students, building lifelong friendships and professional connections with others who share a passion for the dairy industry and represent its future.

Throughout the program, students were given quizzes, and exams. Elsie was recognized as the Top Academic Individual Student for Session 2.
And finally, to apply everything learned through the 6 weeks, along with critical thinking. All students were divided into teams of 4 to partake in a dairy consulting challenge. Where they evaluated a dairy, made a presentation and presented in front of a panel of judges. Elizabeth’s team was awarded 2nd place!

If you have any questions about the program or have interest in applying in the future, don't hesitate to reach out to Elizabeth, Elsie, or Cait. They would be more than happy to share their experiences and answer any questions!

Day 1 of our spring trip!!
Yesterday about 20 club members hit the road for the finger lakes region to tour three amazing farms. Two of them are SUNY Cobleskill Alumni!!

We started off touring Vision Quest dairy and got a tour from one of our alumni Kevin Patt! They are a 600 cow dairy with 11 Lely robots.

After, we stopped for a tour of Sunnyside Dairy. They have about 5,000 cows milking on a 100 cow rotary parlor.

To end the day we toured Fesko dairy. They have about 1,100 dairy cows on a 50 cow rotary parlor! Kim and Eric Brayman are also alumni. To end the night we stayed at a campground run by Kim called Happy Pasture Campgrounds.
