Over 1,500 tortoises have reportedly been rescued from a large-scale breeding operation connected to laboratory testing and animal supply programs. The rescue effort, supported by animal welfare advocates and rescue organizations, has drawn attention to the ethical concerns surrounding the use of animals in biomedical and pharmaceutical research.

Many of these animals are believed to have spent their entire lives inside controlled facilities, without experiencing natural environments or proper freedom. Rescue teams now face the enormous challenge of transporting, rehabilitating, and providing long-term care for the tortoises.

Musician publicly voiced support for the rescue mission, emphasizing that scientific advancement should not come at the cost of compassion and humane treatment.

Large-scale rescues like this require extensive funding, veterinary treatment, rehabilitation, and safe permanent habitats. Animal welfare groups continue working to give these tortoises a second chance at the life they were never allowed to have.

I can’t image how wonderful of a feeling this must have been to find this once thought extinct species.

Alameda police were recently called to a home where the former tenants had reportedly left behind a large Komodo dragon. When police arrived, it turned out to be a young ornate Nile monitor -- a lizard species that grows up to 7 feet long. http://nbcbay.com/ilw9vhV
