Back-to-School Safety Reminder

As we head into the first day of school on Wednesday, August 26th, please remember that our buses will once again be on the roads carrying the most precious cargo—our children.

💛 Slow down in school zones and neighborhoods.

💛Watch for children walking or waiting at bus stops.

❤️ Stop for school buses when their lights are flashing and stop sign is out—even if you are on the opposite side of the road.

Let’s allow a little extra travel time in the mornings and afternoons, stay alert, and work together to keep our kids safe. ❤️

This is an informative procedure post!

Please READ entire post for some “Back to School” Information/procedures!

***ALL Parents: **** Your student should know the following by Wednesday:
1. Their BuS Number
2. Physical Address
3. Contact number for parent/guardian.

If you are still unsure about bus info, please call the Raleigh County Schools Transportation Department for more information.

*****Morning Drop-off*****🚗🚌
Parent drop off will begin no earlier than 6:45 a.m. : For the safety of our students, please do not drop your student off prior to 6:45 for them to wait at the door.

The school day begins promptly at 7:20 a.m.
Any students that arrive after 7:15 a.m. Will enter through the front doors (flagpoles)

Please look at the map below for visual directions on the process of dropping off your student(s).
1. When entering school grounds, you will see two lanes entering the middle school. The left lane is the BUS and FACULTY lane(red arrows)... DO NOT enter the Faculty/Bus drop off area or block the bus lane. Students will be exiting the bus and parents are not permitted in this zone.

PARENTS will stay in the right lane(white arrows) and circle around the rock. When you approach the parking area at the rock, your student will exit the car, walk to the sidewalk, and enter the building through the side Gym entrance. All students will enter through this door.

2. To allow the line to move smoothly and continuously, please make sure students are ready to exit the car when you approach the student drop off point. Signing forms, fixing bags, etc. should be done prior to gettting in line.

3. After your student has exited the vehicle and reached the sidewalk, please yield and continue around the rock to exit the parking lot.
Faculty will be along the sidewalk and at the entrance to welcome our students!

****Dismissal: ***** 🚙🚌
School will be dismissed at 2:28 p.m.

1. Parents will park in the morning drop- off zone, and parent pick up will be dismissed to circle the building and pick up students after the busses have excited the parking lot.
ALL parent pick-up students will remain on the sidewalk and enter vehicles as parents circle around to the front of the school entrance (flag poles)
No students will be permitted to walk between cars up to the top of the road.
Please do not park in the grass at the entrance of the school and direct your child to walk to you. All parents will have to circle around and pick students up at the flag poles.

2. PLEASE Do NoT block the Left lane. The bus zone will remain the same as morning drop off.
The buses will come down from the high school and enter the bus zone by using the left lane.

Please be patient the first week of School. The buses often run a few minutes late until all new students at the high school and middle school learn their new routines.

PATRIOT WATER BOTTLE REMINDER!

As we begin the new school year, please take a moment to review Independence Middle School’s Student Water Bottle Policy.

Students may bring a clear plastic water bottle, 24 oz. or smaller, containing only water.

* No soda, juice, tea, or coffee
* No energy drinks
