Have an idea that could transform learning in your school? Let’s make it happen!

The 2026–2027 IU1 Innovation Grants are now open!

Supported by the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation and EQT Corporation, the Innovation Grants empower educators to turn creative ideas into meaningful, student-centered learning experiences.

Whether you have a bold new idea ready to launch or a smaller project that could make a big difference, there are two funding opportunities:

Innovation Grant — up to $5,000
For larger, integrated projects that bring innovation across multiple disciplines.
Innovation Micro Grant — up to $2,000
For smaller-scale or early-stage projects that give educators the opportunity to test a new idea.

We’re looking for projects that are creative, interdisciplinary, student-centered, and connected to your school’s vision for innovation.

Your next great idea could be the beginning of something incredible for your students.

Applications are due October 31, 2026.

Happening at the Convocation Center, this day was dedicated entirely to supporting and empowering our regional paraprofessionals with the tools and insights they need to better serve our students every day.

Administrative Assistants Bootcamp
Our admins spent the morning diving into E-Colors training to unlock communication strengths, followed by an afternoon of digital accessibility training to ensure we're fully prepared for upcoming ADA compliance deadlines. Day 1 is in the books, but they aren't done yet—stay tuned for Day 2 tomorrow!

What a packed, inspiring General Session at PennWest California today! Huge thanks to PennWest for graciously hosting our Intermediate Unit 1 team for such a memorable in-service.

Our morning kicked off with uplifting opening remarks from IU1 Administration, Anthony Mauro (Associate VP for University Development at PennWest), and Dr. Mark Leidy (PAIU Executive Director). We then had the privilege of honoring our outstanding colleagues during the In-Service awards presentation.

We were deeply moved by our keynote speaker, Smiles Taylor Art, who shared how vital special education has been in his life and expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the educators who helped him along the way. Afterwards, IU1’s own Ron Gallagher, Teresa Brown, and Joe Lape delivered an insightful presentation on Artificial Intelligence in education.

Following lunch, our teams broke out into collaborative workgroups with their supervisors to dive deeper into practical AI integration, before gathering back in the gym for closing remarks and raffles to round out the afternoon.
