Mystery motivator at the elementary! Students were challenged to build the highest tower out of toothpicks and pumpkins. It was harder than it looked and everyone had a great time!

Today in Second-Grade Social Studies, we talked about working together and solving problems in our community. We also practiced a new mindfulness practice called Appreciation Station! ❤️

Each student received a half sheet of paper that said, “I appreciate you,” which they taped to their desk. We then spent 10 minutes walking around the classroom, leaving kind words or drawing pictures to let our classmates know they are appreciated.

This is something we’ll be doing every week for the rest of the school year. Because sometimes, we all just need to hear that we are appreciated! ❤️

Banned Books Week has officially begun! Our classes have been learning about what banned books week is and what it means. Here at CAL Charter we love supporting our friends freedom to read. To celebrate, our students designed pins with the theme of “Let Books Be” and other themes of banned books to give out to the teachers and students 📚

Thank you to Dr Gary Gregg for visiting us today and talking to our students. Gary L. Gregg, PhD, directs the McConnell Center, a nonpartisan program at the University of Louisville that attracts the best and brightest students from around Kentucky and prepares them for careers in effective leadership.

An award-winning political science teacher and expert on the U.S. presidency, Gregg has written or edited more than a dozen books on topics related to the American presidency, the Constitution, and George Washington. He is currently completing a biography of our first president.

As director of the McConnell Center, Gregg has organized hundreds of educational events on campus for students and the community. We would also like to say thank you for the donation of signed books for our library. It was very special having you share your perspective as an author and educator with us.
