Sports in Kansas 8M-I Team to Watch

Clifton-Clyde enters the 2026 season with a strong nucleus returning from a 6-3 campaign in 2025. The Eagles return five starters on both offense and defense, giving head coach Russ Steinbrock plenty of experience to build around. Steinbrock enters his 26th year at Clifton-Clyde and has compiled a 160-78 overall record, including a 152-56 mark in eight-man football.

“We are excited about this upcoming season. We feel like we have a strong nucleus coming back from a 6-3 team last year. The team has worked hard during the off-season and throughout the summer. They are excited and ready for the season to begin,” Steinbrock said.

Kyzler Damman leads the returning group at quarterback and defensive back and is one of several players to watch closely this season. Ryan LeClair returns on the offensive and defensive lines, while Emitt Tiemeyer is back at the same positions. Striker Affolter returns on the offensive line and at linebacker, with Trenton Benne back at wide receiver and defensive back.

Jacob Newton also returns at running back and linebacker, giving Clifton-Clyde another experienced two-way contributor. With 10 returning starters and a group that has put in significant work during the offseason and summer, the Eagles will look to continue building on last season's success as they enter the 2026 campaign.

Thank you to the Kenny Marcotte family and those that donated to his memorial fund. The funds donated to the USD 224 athletic dept. helped us in the purchase of a new water wheel for the practice fields.
