What is Look for the Stars?
• Look for the STARS is a quality rating and improvement system that
contains five levels. The higher the STAR level, the higher the level of
quality.
• One-STAR programs meet one-STAR licensing requirements and do not receive child care subsidy.
• Two-STAR programs meet basic licensing requirements.
• Each STAR level requires a provider to continue to meet higher qu

ality standards in the following areas:
□ Staff training and education: Well-trained staff help raise the quality of services given to children and families.
□ Environment affects the way children behave, develop and learn.
□ Daily learning activities reflect each child’s individual interests, growth and development.
□ Family involvement helps staff make learning meaningful to children.
□ Assessment allows staff to observe and document children’s progress and share information with parents.
□ Ratios and group size: Research shows that fewer children per adult and smaller group size result in positive outcomes for children.
• A license with five stars indicates that the child care program is accredited and has met the highest level of quality. Why was Look for the STARS created?
• To help parents identify quality child care programs.
• To encourage child care programs to continue to improve their quality of care.
• To recognize child care programs that provide quality child care. The number of stars on a child care provider’s license tells you the level of quality criteria that program has met. A license will have one, two, three, four or five filled-in stars on it. Here at Kid Care we have held a 5 Star license for 5 Years! That means we abide by state and the higher national standards. Since we are nationally accredited, we are required to get more training than your average program with reports sent to our national accrediting body for review. That means better and more qualified care for you children. In Curry and Roosevelt counties we are the only 5 Star Group Home Daycare! We also use the Kaplan Active Learning Series that teaches through play and is tailored to prepare each one of our kids for Kindergarten. We also work on the Social and Emotional Development of the kids which is vital for their success in life. If you have any questions feel free to ask or stop by and learn with us!
