There are so many ways to get involved with football at any end every level as well as anything that touches football. sorry guys I’m tired…. But wanted to give Jimothy some love. There’s more to this little guy then it’s spine that help researchers understand the world around him and his cousins. When you find that you or the Internet geeks out about something like jimothy ask yourself why and if there is more to it……and who is researching it and where. it’s not raccoons, but on my Substack I do have a free deep dive on bears. You could follow the same model for raccoons to learn about all the jobs and careers out there when you geek out about your favorite one. Link In bio under icons for substack or resources. When I was in college, a minored in criminal justice, I wasn’t a reader and somehow got through high school in college skimming pretty much everything and getting really good at using the index to find information I needed but I read every word of a book called. “May God have mercy.” It was about a wrongful death penalty case . I had a lot of professors in my criminology program, researching crime and punishment and wrongful executions so that was brought into class and our research projects a lot. I wish students didn’t pick colleges based on campus tours and ranking and instead looked at professor interests, expertise, and research institutes in campus. Criminal justice as a major can look super different everywhere you go. If you’re particularly interested in wrongful executions, this would be a great university to look at and see if you might be interested in the work they’re doing or if you wanted hands-on experience looking at places like Berkeley‘s law school where they have a clinic focused on death penalty cases could also be a great fit. If you’re planning on majoring in communication, I encourage you to look at majors in your special area of interest that you want to write about or make content about and see if they incorporate communication into the major. A lot of people choose to major in English, writing, journalism and communication, but then don’t have anything to write about. Especially for those a few that are interested in more technical writing, then creative or want to get into journalism but in a certain topic. Most people choose top ranked schools with little regard to professor expertise. Try this method instead and read what you want to write about in the course catalog and see if they combine it with a specialty to teach you how to create content, written, verbal or film.

A lot of people who are trained in appraising are retiring or dying, and while the new generation knows how to look things up on eBay, they may not fully understand how to actually appraise a piece of fine China, a historical artifact, or a rare collectible. This is just one way to learn some appraising skills. Various community colleges also offer courses from time to time and of course there’s lots of YouTube videos and you can watch things like antique roadshow but getting certified helps people feel confident in hiring you for appraisals. This can be a great full time or part time side hustle. Love ceramics and want to paint fine china ? There are still companies in the US that hand paint china, including Pickard and you can even find other jobs that are non-artist related, so you can work around what you love for example Heath is currently hiring for an engineer. These are the types of jobs. Most people never think about you can become an engineer and work at a manufacturing company that makes fine China you don’t just have to engineer bridges and roads . Likewise, if you’re an accountant, you can be an accountant at a fine China company instead of a pesticide company or a mortgage company. Combining what you love with what you do is the heart of what we do here. If you’re not already following along on buckle up as we enter Halloween season in full force and share with a friend. Take the walk early, late, when it’s hot, when it’s cold, when you are carrying groceries or a backpack full of books , when your sick…..or even rent and try a bike or scooter. Simulation is so powerful……vs just assuming it will be fine. If you don’t have that long at campus simulate it at home and have someone drop you off a ways away from school every week and trek and do it on hard days…not easy ones. Do it when running late, you have a test, you are tired…..let’s stop setting ourselves up for failure. College is hard enough as it is, if you are not a walker now you may need to train or find a different campus. These enviornmental things we can control are often overlooked and compound and students end up wanting to transfer for reasons they may have been able to prevent. If you need accommodations for a disability also be sure to inquire now about what’s avilable. Mac

Yes, this may not be a field hiring for a lot of people, but if you’re going to major in speech pathology anyway, and you do have an interest in space it’s an opportunity to work with professors who are researching this and if people do end up moving to space, maybe you can be a speech pathologist on Mars. If you prefer professors that are researching something else it’s important to see what their funded to research. I make these videos for that dual purpose you might be applying to the most prestigious. Programs ranked in the top 10 for your major, but your professor‘s interests may not match yours and now you’re simply paying for the opportunity to study with people and learn about their area of interest instead of your own. I can’t stress enough how professor interest can shape your education in a good or bad way as examples that are given assignments that you work on research that you gather and internship opportunities that you get may be related to their research not what you envisioned. 💋 The LOL factory !
