The CUSD Interpreters are an amazing group of educators that ensure a fair break for every kid. They are trying to live Doc’s Charge, but they need a fair contract that ensures they can appropriately and legally support their students.

Last week we celebrated Environmental Education Week and Earth Day, and this week, we celebrate the Clovis educators who bargained the first ACE Naturalist contract. These educators build environmental literacy through hands-on learning in science, history, stewardship, teamwork, and resilience at Sierra Outdoor School. They also put in the hard work to build a stronger future for their coworkers. With CTA support, CUSD Naturalists wrote this agreement for CUSD. Together, they secured better pay, safer working conditions, clearer rights, and a stronger voice at work.

Meet the bargaining team for the ACE Interpreters They are currently working through an impasse with the district as they try to ensure that CUSD is a competitive place for ASL Interpreters to want to work. There are current vacancies where students are not being served because the compensation package is just not competitive with neighboring districts. These CUSD employees know that we are too poor to buy cheap and that our students deserve the very best and will bargain a contract that aligns with those principles. A fair break is often synonymous with a fair contract.

ACE is proud of its association with CTA, but we are more proud of the Clovis Educators that sit at the table with district administrators to collectively bargain. Sitting on a bargaining team is not easy, but as these Clovis educators will tell you, it is such a worthwhile task. Our labor reps from CTA are amazing and offer incredible support, but they will never negotiate a contract for Clovis educators. That work will always be done by and for Clovis educators.
