Clover High School’s Jazz Ensemble has been selected to perform as a featured ensemble at the 2027 South Carolina Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference.
The President Elect of the South Carolina Band Director’s Association notified directors of selected ensembles earlier in the week about this honor with preliminary details.
The Clover HIgh School Jazz Ensemble is under the direction of long time Associate Director of Bands, Courtney E. Wyatt. Ms. Wyatt has served as the Associate Director for the past 12 years helping navigate an unprecedented time of growth, changes, and success.
The annual conference will be February 4-6, 2027, and held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in Columbia, SC. The Clover Ensemble was selected to perform in one of nine coveted spots from a pool of 44 ensembles who applied to perform at this year’s conference. The Clover Jazz Ensemble is an ensemble of students in the Clover Band Program grades 9-12 who rehearse primarily outside of the school day and perform at community events during second semester.
The CHS Jazz Ensemble will perform Friday February 5, 2027, at the Convention Center at 4:45pm. The concerts are open to the public in addition to conference attendees, performing groups, etc. We hope to see a huge turnout from our Clover Community in addition to the colleagues and friends across the music education community in South Carolina.
Clover High School Principal Donna Farris said, “I am overjoyed with excitement for our students to experience the joy of performing for such a renowned audience of music educators, but also for the rest of the state to witness the level of commitment, musical excellence, and grit that we are so accustomed to at Clover HS. Ms. Wyatt is the epitome of quiet excellence, and I can’t wait to hear what she and her jazz band cooks up for this performance.”
Rick Langdale Jr., Director of Bands, said, “I couldn't be happier for Ms. Wyatt and the CHS Jazz Ensemble students. These kids and their director have rehearsed at all hours, performed in many different venues for community events, and they never disappoint their audiences. Jazz Education is something that we have worked hard to elevate over the past several years across the district. ”
Courtney E. Wyatt, Associate Director of Bands, said, “This honor is the harvest of many years of work from our amazing students and the relentless drive for excellence. As an alumna of Clover High School myself, it is with indescribable pride that I will get to lead an ensemble from Clover High School to perform in front of every music educator in the Palmetto State.”
