Congratulations to our Geography and GIS Program!

Geography and GIS Program Coordinator Mike Knudson has co-authored the program’s first peer-reviewed journal publication in collaboration with researchers from the University of Minnesota Duluth. The research, focused on identifying downstream contamination risks at permafrost-bound hazard sites in Alaska, recognizes Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College as an affiliated institution.

This accomplishment extends far beyond publication. Through this research partnership, FDLTCC students had the opportunity to participate directly in the research process. During last spring’s GIS Applications course, students successfully recreated the model and analysis used in the published study—gaining valuable, hands-on experience with real-world research.

This milestone showcases the high-impact learning experiences available at FDLTCC while highlighting the expertise and innovation of our faculty.

Please join us in congratulating Mike Knudson and our Geography & GIS students on this outstanding accomplishment!
