Dear Sunset Ave. Parents & Families,

We are so excited to welcome our students back tomorrow for the first day of school! Here are a few quick details to help ensure a smooth morning:

7:30 AM – Campus opens / Students may begin arriving

8:00 AM – Tardy bell rings

3:00 PM – Dismissal

Breakfast: Students eating breakfast should report directly to the cafeteria. All other students will report directly to their hallway.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up: Please follow the designated traffic pattern at Kerr Street.

⏰ Please allow extra time on Monday morning as everyone gets used to the new drop-off routines and traffic.

Mark your calendars! We will be hosting our Open House on:

Come meet your teachers, explore the classrooms, and get ready for a great year ahead!

🚗 Car Rider Traffic Pattern (Map Attached)
Safety is our top priority during drop-off and pick-up times. We have attached the Car Rider Traffic Pattern Map.

Please carefully review the route and strictly adhere to this designated path for both morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.

Note the designated turn lanes, entry points, and restricted areas on the map (including the "NO LEFT TURN into Parking Lot" guidance).

Join Sunset Avenue Elementary for their Open House on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM! It's a wonderful opportunity to tour the school, meet your child’s teacher, and kick off a successful school year. While you're there, stop by the info tables to get help with Infinite Campus, register for bus transportation, pay the $20 technology fee, and learn how to get involved with the PTSO. The school family can't wait to see you there!

📚✨ BIG NEWS FOR SUNSET AVENUE! ✨📚

We are thrilled to announce that Sunset Avenue now has its very own Little Free Library! 🎉

Thanks to a grant requested by Ms. Schmidt last fall, our school was selected for the "Power Up with Reading" initiative. This amazing project is a partnership between Little Free Library and Scholastic to bring custom-designed, Dog Man-themed book-sharing boxes to schools and communities just like ours! 🐕⚡️

To make this even more spectacular, bestselling author and illustrator Dav Pilkey donated books to support the launch.

📖 How It Works: "Take a Book, Leave a Book"
Our Little Free Library runs on a beautiful, community-driven honor system:

Take a Book: See something you or your child want to read? Take it! It’s yours to enjoy.

Leave a Book: Have a great story that your family has outgrown? Slip it inside the library for another reader to discover!

🔄 Help Us Keep It Stocked! 🔄
While you are always welcome to keep a book you truly love, we rely on your donations and the return of borrowed books to keep our shelves full of exciting stories. If we want this library to thrive, we need our community's help to keep the cycle going!

🎒 Want to Donate? Here is the Etiquette!
Donating is simple, but following a few quick guidelines ensures a wonderful experience for all our young readers:

The Right Variety: We are focusing on children's books to power up our students' reading journeys! 🧒👧

Good Condition: Books should be gently used, clean, and fully readable (no missing pages or heavy wear, please!).

Just Drop It Off: If you have an age-appropriate book that fits the bill, simply open the door and place it inside.
