Reminder:
Dear Parent/Guardian:
As part of our school safety planning, Journey Church serves as one of CES’s reunification sites should we ever experience an emergency that requires us to relocate students from our building.
One of the best ways we can prepare students is simply by making an unfamiliar place feel familiar.
Weather permitting, on Friday, August 21, our students and staff will take a walk to Journey Church. This will not be presented as an emergency drill. Instead, we want it to be a positive way to celebrate a successful first week of school while also helping students become comfortable with the route, the building, and the people they might see there.
Students will walk through the space, become familiar with the surroundings, and then enjoy a popsicle outside in the yard before walking back to CES.
Our approximate departure times are:
2nd Grade: 12:15 p.m.
5th Grade: 1:15 p.m.
4th Grade: 1:30 p.m.
3rd Grade: 1:45 p.m.
If the weather does not cooperate, our rain date will be Friday, August 28.
Our goal is simple: familiar faces and familiar spaces. If we ever need Journey Church during an actual emergency, we want our students to be able to think, “I know this place. I’ve been here before.”
Journey Church has been a wonderful community partner, including making thousands of Easter eggs for our students this past spring, and we appreciate their continued support of CES. We also hope to find other opportunities throughout the school year for students to visit the space in positive and fun ways, helping that familiarity continue to grow.
Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or your child’s teacher if you have any questions regarding our visit to Journey Church or our reunification planning. We’re looking forward to a great first week and a fun Friday walk together!
Sincerely,
Paul Ranstead
Principal
