Time spent at Woodsrunner is hard to forget. This video takes me back.

Good people.

Good conversation.

Time around the fire.

A little fun mixed in with it all.

That has always been part of Woodsrunner too.
And this year marks 10 years of Woodsrunner School.

So we are starting the talk about Escape to the Woods | October 9–11, 2026 here at the school.

It will be a weekend to camp, gather, reconnect, and enjoy time together in the woods.

There will be time to learn.

Time to share.

Time around the fire.

Time to trade stories, skills, and good fellowship.

Come as you are. Relax. And if you act like this bunch, you will fit right in.
If you have been part of one of these weekends before, what is one thing you remember most?

10 years is no small thing, and we are looking forward to making this one count.

Real skills. Real readiness. Time in the woods.

Lost proofing made easy.

Stay oriented. Stay audible. Stay visible.

A lot of trouble in the woods starts small.

A missed turn.

Fading light.

Poor attention.

Waiting too long.

Small mistakes have a way of turning into bigger problems. That is why wilderness readiness matters.

Lost proofing is not complicated, but it does take thought.

Know where you are.

Make yourself heard.

Make yourself seen.

Stay ahead of the problem before it starts stacking up.

No big kit required. This fits in my pockets.

When things go bad, simple things that work matter.

Real skills. Real readiness. Time in the woods.

What we teach is serious.

In the woods, small mistakes have a way of turning into big problems. A missed detail. A lazy habit. A bad decision at the wrong time.

That is why wilderness readiness matters.

It matters whether you are learning how to get into the woods the right way, or learning what it takes to get back out when things do not go as planned.

And if someone is going to teach that, they better care about it. They better believe in it. They better have the passion to pass it on the right way.

Because when it counts, people do not need noise. They need something that works.

That is why we take this work seriously.

Real skills. Real readiness. Time in the woods.

I almost didn’t share this.

Not because I don’t believe in what we do here — but because sometimes coming back quietly feels harder than starting loud.

This past course was my second time back teaching.

No big announcement.
No spotlight.

Just boots on the ground, lessons taught, and students showing up ready to learn.

There were moments that felt slower than they used to.
Moments where I had to stop, breathe, and reset.

Earlier this year, I went through something that forced me to rebuild — not just physically, but in how I move forward.

Standing there teaching again reminded me of something important:

You don’t have to be at full strength to keep moving forward.

You just have to keep showing up.

I’m thankful for the students who trusted the process.

Thankful for the chance to teach again.

And thankful to still be doing what I believe I was called to do.

If you’ve ever had to rebuild instead of restart, you understand exactly what this moment means.

Have you ever had a season where progress looked quieter than you expected?

🔥 One Mission. And a Fire That Never Died.

It’s been quiet here for a while… quieter than I ever intended.

Life hit hard. The body slowed down. The days got heavier than I expected.

But the fire?
It never went out.

And now… it’s time to stand this thing back up.

Woodsrunner School has always been about one mission:

Teaching real skills.
Building real confidence.

Helping folks become ready for whatever life throws at them — in the woods or in the world.

And that mission isn’t changing. It’s getting sharper.

Over the next few weeks, you’ll start seeing what’s coming:

🔥 New courses shaped by real experience
🔥 New events that bring people back to the fire
🔥 New skills we’ve never offered before
🔥 A renewed focus on practical, real-world readiness
🔥 A stronger direction for the entire Woodsrunner community

If you’ve ever trained with us, walked alongside us, or shared a night around the fire… you’re part of what comes next.

This community has carried me more than you know, and now it’s time to carry this mission forward together.

If you’re still here — if you still believe in what we’re doing — show it:

• Drop a 🔥 if you’ve been with us before.
• Drop a 🌲 if you’re new and ready to step in.
• Drop a 🤝 if Woodsrunner has sharpened or encouraged you.

• Drop your state so we can see how far this family reaches.

If you’ve ever felt the pull to learn this kind of life...

Your time is coming. Because at the end of the day…

We don’t quit.
.

The fire is lit again — steady, warm, and ready for what’s next.

Some nights stay with you… and next weekend might be one of them.

December 12th through 14th, we’re gathering out here at the property for something simple and real —a meal, a fire, and the kind of conversation that doesn’t happen much anymore.

Let me ask you something right off the bat:

When was the last time you sat by a fire long enough to actually feel your shoulders drop?

Saturday night (Dec 13th) is the heart of it — dinner, firelight, and real people sitting together without rushing off.

Friday’s open if you want to ease in early, and you can stay the night or just come for the evening.

Come as you are. Leave when you need to. You’ll be welcomed the same either way.

I’ll tell you the truth… there was a night out here not long ago when someone said something across the fire that I still think about.

It wasn’t loud.
It wasn’t planned.

But it hit me.

And it reminded me why these nights matter.

After the year I’ve had, I don’t take this kind of gathering lightly.

I don’t take people lightly.
And honestly — I’d like to see you here.

Not the crowd… you, the person reading this right now.

Bring whatever you’ve been carrying.

Bring your stories.

Or bring nothing at all — just yourself.

You’ll fit in just fine.
If you were sitting with us next Saturday night, what story from your life would you share first?

Your answer might be exactly what someone else needs to hear.

Nights like this stay with you.

We Don’t Just Teach Survival. We Build Readiness.

Some folks never had someone to teach them—
and now they’re trying to catch up.

That’s why we’re still here.

At Woodsrunner School, we don’t just teach survival.

We train people to be steady, capable, and ready
when life doesn’t go as planned.

Some come because they never had a mentor.

Some come to feel confident outdoors.

Others are just tired of waiting on help that never comes.

You don’t need hype.
You need the wisdom & skills that hold up.

🪵 The schedule’s up. Come see what we’re about.

This One Hit Close to Home

Yesterday afternoon, a hiker went missing from the Brick House Campground along the Palmetto Trail—just a little over a mile through the woods from the Woodsrunner School. For many of our alumni, they will know this spot well. It’s our rally point where we meet before training.

I was asked to assist early, before the full-scale search was underway. I brought in our ATV and began checking the Palmetto Trail and Buncombe Horse Trails—areas I’ve traveled many times. But once you leave the main trail, it becomes a different place. The terrain is rugged—deep gullies, heavy underbrush, and trees still laid down from Hurricane Helene. It’s slow going and disorienting, even when you know what you’re doing.

Local search and rescue crews searched until dark—with atvs, drones, and by air with South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) helicopter support. The terrain and lack of daylight forced the search to pause overnight, and teams returned at first light.

Before leaving the area last night, I had the chance to pray with this gentleman's family. There wasn’t much to say—just a moment to ask for peace, strength, and a safe return.

And this morning, the hiker was found safe along the highway. Praise God.

I don’t know what led to the situation, and I’m not here to speculate. But what I do know is that this can happen to anyone. One wrong step. One missed trail. One choice made under pressure. The woods don’t ask how much experience you have—they just respond to how prepared you are.

I’ve hunted, hiked, and trekked this land most of my life—as well as taught on it. And I’ll be the first to admit: knowledge and experience don't make you invincible. What it gives you is a way to respond when things go wrong.

That’s the difference. That’s the value of training.
Not to eliminate risk—but to keep your head when it shows up.

We don’t teach survival so people can feel tough. We teach it because reality doesn't care how confident you are. What matters is whether you can think clearly, stay found, and stay alive when things stop going according to plan.

This situation serves as a real reminder: get training—from someone reputable, somewhere. Even just the basics. Not to become an expert… but to make it back.

I’ll post the news article in the comments below for those who want more information.
