Voyage Academy

Voyage Academy Voyage Academy is an Expeditionary Learning School located in Clinton, Utah. Serving Grades K-6

Voyage Academy opened in the Fall of 2013 and offers a style of teaching known as Expeditionary Learning. This approach involves hands on experience by taking the child outside of the classroom to learn. Students participate in semester long studies called expeditions that will teach them in depth information about a topic as well as meet the State core curriculum requirements. EL also teaches st

udents team work skills by working in daily groups called "Crews" It is in these Crews that students are encouraged by their fellow peers to compete, not against each other but, against their best selves in achieving their greatest results. More of this style of learning can be found on the EL website http://elschools.org/
Or in Ron Berger's book "An Ethic of Excellence"

The halls and classrooms are filled with happy faces, new friendships, big smiles, and just a little bit of first-day-of-school excitement!
Our Vikings are settling in, our teachers are doing what they do best, and the school is already feeling like home. 💙🎒📘

Ms. Starke made this hilarious reel while packing up her classroom, and we are SO excited because we’re finally getting to the good part! 🎉

Our teachers are busy putting their classrooms back together after the big move, and let’s just say… it hasn’t been quite as magical as the reels make it look. 😂📦
But behind all the boxes, rearranging, organizing, and unpacking, something pretty special is happening. Our teachers are creating the magic in their classrooms as they prepare welcoming spaces for your kiddos.
The countdown is on! 🧱💙 T minus 4 days!

*****New Teacher Spotlight*****
Hello! My name is Mrs. Blaire Barker! I’m excited to be returning to the classroom as a kindergarten teacher this year. After teaching first grade for ten years at Voyage, I took three years away to focus on family, and I am thrilled to be back doing what I love. Teaching has always been my passion, and I can’t wait to learn, grow, and have fun with my kindergarten students.

Outside of school, I love spending time outdoors and making memories with my family. I look forward to getting to know my students and making this a joyful year!

Hello! My name is Ms. Carlee Shock, and I am excited to be teaching 4th Grade Science and Social Studies at Voyage Academy this year!

I have a passion for helping students discover the world around them through hands-on learning, curiosity, and exploration. My goal is to create a classroom where students feel safe, supported, and excited to ask questions, solve problems, and grow both academically and personally.

When I’m not in the classroom, I enjoy spending time outdoors. I love hiking, horseback riding, fishing, sports and exploring nature. I also enjoy reading, especially fantasy novels, art and spending time with my family and my animals.

I am looking forward to an amazing year of learning, discovery, and adventure with my 4th grade students. I can’t wait to explore, learn, and grow together throughout the school year!

*****New Teacher Spotlight*****
Hi, my name is Sarah Nelson and I am teaching Second Grade this year! My path in education took me to Utah State for schooling, then after a combined ten years of teaching kinder-fourth grades in Salt Lake and at Voyage I switched to an elementary in Layton and spent the last four years as the assistant principal there. While loving all that the leadership opportunity brought, my heart is in the classroom and so I chose to again to work directly with students. I am excited to be back after the handful of years away!

My husband and I have three great kids, who I stayed home with when young, brought along to Voyage for their elementary years, and now watch from our now quieter home. When I am not in teacher mode, I can be found in my backyard flower garden, on a hiking trail, in the stands watching high school basketball, reading a new novel or pile of picture books, or planning a detailed trip itinerary.
