I should note for the Fire Pit project that the Advanced Welding students are working on, that it is an extensive and broad project. At this point we know they can weld. So this time they had to learn the design software to be able to come up with a unique design, draw it out, turn it into a cut file, load and setup up the machine, and then operate it to successfully cut out their design. Then they have to figure out how to assemble and weld their designs into a finished product for painting. At the end, they will have the option of purchasing their fire pit for the cost of the metal or having it sold at the annual car show this summer (dates to be announced). Money from the sale of the fire pits goes back into the department for improvements or upgrades. Currently we are working on trying to replace our 25+ year old MIG welders that have become a bit temperamental. These fire pits are made from 1/8" steel, so they won't rust out like the ones at most stores. I'll post pictures of any that will be for sale when I know which ones of the four will be sold.
