This one hurts. Chief Irish spent the last years of his life educating the fire service about fire service related cancer through candid discussion and honest and open dialogue. It was a reality check for those of us who heard his message and I know that he has impacted lives through his dedication to education.

Rest easy Chief. You will be missed. Thank you for the gift of education though compassion and brotherhood.

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Past Homer Fire Chief, NYS Fire Instructor assigned to Cortland County, and Cortland County Deputy Fire Coordinator, Mahlon Irish Jr.

Mahlon dedicated his life to the fire service and to the Cortland County community. Through his leadership, instruction, and unwavering commitment, he impacted generations of firefighters and helped strengthen the fire service throughout our county and beyond.

His service, mentorship, and devotion to protecting others will not be forgotten. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the many members of the fire service who had the honor of working alongside him.

Rest in peace, Chief Irish. Your legacy will continue to live on through those you trained and led.

5/25/25 Sunday: During a response to an auto accident between Nothum and Bavigne (northwestern Luxembourg) this past Friday, a rescue helicopter itself was involved in an incident when taking off after a SAMU medical team intervention. During liftoff, the pilot struck a tree branch with the rotor, causing the aircraft to become unstable. Luckily it made it back to the ground with significant damages. Fortunately, none of the four people on board were injured, and no patient was in the helicopter at the time. Original video owner unknown, but 🎥 content pulled from RTL Today.

🚨🚨2-ALARM FIRE Tucson Fire was dispatched to a call of fire nature unknown at 3:37 this afternoon in the 3100 block of East 22nd Street. Engine 3 arrived six minutes later and reported smoke coming from the back door on and eaves of an abandoned AM/PM. A full alarm was called, and crews started to search for the source of the fire. As seen in this video, there was a significant fire event. The roof collapsed, and operations shifted to a defensive mode. At this time, crews are unable to enter the building to extinguish remaining hot spots, and excavators will be used to tear it down. Firefighters were on the roof when it collapsed, but they were uninjured, as was the individual seen in the video. This video highlights the dangers our crews face every time they battle a fire, and we are thankful that everyone is safe. The fire was caused by homeless activity.
