Here’s a simple reminder of why proportion matters.

A toddler was completely captivated by the Yorkshire Terrier next to the Great Dane. The size difference was what caught their attention.

If both dogs had been the same size, they wouldn’t have had the same opportunity to notice one of the biggest differences between these breeds. Accurate proportions give children a more accurate picture of reality.

Am I perfect at this? Absolutely not. I still find myself working to improve the proportions of objects and cards. But it’s something I continue to pay attention to because it really does make a difference.

As you choose objects and cards for your language area, keep proportion in mind. It’s one more way we help children build an accurate understanding of the world around them.

What a wonderful tradition to do with toddlers

Birthday cake work!!! 🎂
This was a favorite tradition of mine in the room, the birthday child would make their own cake to bring home and share with their family…love how proud they were to contribute to the celebration.
An added bonus: this tradition only took 7 minutes out of the day (aside from cooking time) making it an easy tradition to do, even on busy days!

Treasures from the Darby Library: THE 100-YEAR OVERDUE BOOK

Come see the novel returned to the Darby Library more than a century late. Clarissa, an English literature classic published in 1764, was lent out in the mid-1800s and didn’t find its way home until 1947. The story was so unbelievable it was featured in Ripley’s Believe It or Not. Stop by to see this exhibit exploring the remarkable history of this one-of-a-kind volume in the Darby Library collection.
