Recap of Mechatronics the last two weeks. Last week, we ventured over to Cleveland State to build mechanical gear train systems and students calculated gear ratios, power outputs and gear train efficiencies. This allowed hands on experience of how meshing gears would affect speeds whether gearing up or down based on the calculated ratios.

This week, we hosted BCHS and WVHS sophomores at our fall PIE Palooza to introduce Mechatronics to them and allow students to explore all of our hands on activities in the Mechatronics lab.

Our students have worked hard the last two weeks leading up to Fall Break!

This week in Mechatronics II, students learned about torque, speed and power ratings of electrical motor. On our weekly trip to Cleveland State, students applied their understanding by building a prony brake assembly on the FESTO Mechanical System trainers and collected the necessary data to determine power output, torque(in-oz and ft-lbs) and the efficiency of the motor under each load. What a great week! Think CTE Bradley County Schools

Another successful hands on lab completed by our students at Cleveland State! We have been studying about various types of fasteners, precision measurement tools, tapping holes with thread taps and fastening rivets in Mechatronics 2. Good work this week! Think CTE Bradley County Schools

We had a week full of building simple circuits with resistors in series and parallel and testing our understanding of the theory of total resistance with multimeters and we also learned about various types of hand tools and how/when to use them! Another successful trip to CSCC to assemble mechanical systems with the hand tools discussed in class! Also, big thanks to Katie Kalaschenkow for stopping by to assist our students with building!

What a great week in Mechatronics! We explored circuits with resistors in series and parallel. We also applied our understanding of necessary laws to solve for unknown currents, voltages and resistances, and much more! Students are now starting to understand how all the math they learn is starting to come together.

On another note, we took our first trip to Cleveland State Community College to practice our lockout tag out (LOTO) procedures and introduce the students to their mechanical systems they will be working with this semester.

Last Friday, Mechatronics took a field trip to Cleveland State Community College to work with their FESTO Hydraulic trainers. Students were learning about how fluid flows through a closed system, metering extensions and retractions from directional control valves to double acting cylinders and much more! Thanks for having us CSCC!

What a fast‑paced and exciting first week back from spring break! We’ve welcomed several Cleveland State students in the mornings to help keep them on track during a staffing transition, and our high schoolers were thrilled to be tackling the same college‑level coursework—putting them one step closer to college certificate before graduation.

This week, we wrapped up our Allen‑Bradley PLC units and are gearing up to dive into Siemens next. We’ve also shifted from pneumatics to hydraulics for the remainder of the year, and students are absolutely loving the hands‑on, real‑world experience they’re getting at PIE.
