Youth Career Connect TPS

Youth Career Connect TPS We are all about making sure our students are career and college ready when they graduate high school. Employability is a key factor in our mission!

The Youth Career Connect grant is in it's third year at Toledo Public Schools. The purpose of this grant is to work with specific Career Tech programs and determine how we can support our students through these programs. As of right now, the grant is partnered with TTA, Precision Machining at Start and Scott, Advanced Electronics at Bowsher, and Supply Chain Management at Woodward. We work closely with each student to make sure they're going through the program with lots of support. Our Student Liaisons (Diana Fox Gallaher, Nicole Willaims, and Ken Rosplohowski) work with the students on their Independent Development Plans. They talk about their futures, setting goals, and how to reach those goals. Our Career Coach (Sandy Simon) introduces students to industry, invites guest speakers to come in, sets up mentoring for each student, and helps find internship placements for our seniors. We also have a wonderful College Coach (Mark Litt) who helps the students sign up for CCP classes, fill out college applications, and helps students prepare for life in college. Additionally, all of these people are there for our students as a support system throughout their programs. Our Student Liaisons also recruit for all career tech programs in TPS! We have the skills to seek out the right students for the right programs! TTA students are having a BLAST at NASA this week! Thank you YCC for this amazing opportunity! We were able to ask questions to a panel of NASA engineers, tour the Graphics and Visualization lab (virtual reality), and complete an awesome project! What a GREAT time!

Talk about a great first impression! 🤗🤗🤗 Our Career Tech juniors and seniors had an awesome opportunity to go to a job fair (held specifically for them) at the TPS Board of Education. The employers were beyond impressed!!! Some students were even offered interviews for the following week 🖊📄. The employers couldn't stop talking about how PREPARED our students were. The mock interviews must have done the trick 😎They also said they were polite, well dressed, and overall great kids. Students were given medals 🥇🏅🎖 based on their skills and qualities. We sure are !!!

Start students are having a BLAST at the Natural Science Center today! We collected eggs from the chicken coop and maple water from the maple trees (to make maple syrup) and got to taste some maple syrup that students made!
