The Bolivar County Head Start/Early Head Start Centers will be closed April 3–6, 2026, in observance of the Easter Holiday Break. Centers will reopen on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at regular scheduled time.

Attention Parents and Guardians for Shaw Head Start & Early Head Start,

Shaw Head Start Center will be closed on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, as the staff prepare for the center to reopen.

We are excited to welcome everyone back!!!! The center will reopen on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, and resume regular schedule hours.

Attention Billy J. McCain Center and Shaw “Head Start” Center Parents and Guardians!!!

We are happy to inform you that the plumbing issue has been resolved at the Billy J. McCain Head Start Center. The center will reopen tomorrow at its regular time.

Due to unexpected plumbing issues at the Billy J. McCain Center, we will be closed tomorrow March 20, 2026 to ensure the safety and comfort of our children and staff.

🚨Attention Shaw Head Start Parents🚨
All Head Start children will be transported to the BJM Head Start Center starting tomorrow February 12, 2026. Please drop your child off at Shaw Head Start Center between
7:00 AM - 7:30 AM.
All EHS children will be at the EFL Head Start Center in Cleveland, MS. The parents will be responsible for drop off and pick up at regular scheduled times.
If you have any question or concerns, please feel free to contact your Center Director and/or Social Worker.

Center Re-Opening Notification‼️‼️

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are happy to inform you that school will be back in session on Monday, February 9, 2026 for Billy J. McCain, Elnora F. Littleton, and Rosedale Centers.

Please note that Shaw Center will remain closed at this time due to necessary center repairs. The safety of our children, families, and staff is our top priority. We will provide information as we finalize temporary placement for children and when the center is ready to reopen.

Closure Update Notice‼️‼️‼️

All Head Start/Early Head Start Centers will be closed for Monday and Tuesday. All Centers will REOPEN on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

Inclement Weather Doesn’t Stop Learning, Let’s Keep Learning Going

Literacy & Language Activities

1. Family Story Time
* Read a favorite book together.
* Child can retell the story using toys or drawings.
2. Name & Letter Hunt
* Find letters on iPad, phone, cereal boxes, and/or old mail.
* Practice spelling the child’s name.
* Say the letter sounds together.
3. Weather Words
* Talk about the weather outside.
* Reinforce learning words: rainy, cloudy, windy, stormy, cold, icy.

Math & Thinking Skills

1. Counting Around the House
* Count socks, spoons, toys, or macaroni noodles.
* Sort items by color, size, or shape.
2. Pattern Play
* Create patterns using snacks, blocks, or crayons (red-blue-red).
3. Measure Me
* Compare heights using string or paper strips.
* Ask: Who or what is taller? Who or what is shorter?

Fine Motor

1. Child’s art work: Draw, color, cut, and glue (with supervision).

Physical Movement (Indoor Energy Burners!)

1. Freeze Dance
* Play music, dance, and freeze when the music stops.

Science

1. Sink or Float
* Test household items in a bowl of water.
* Talk about what sinks and floats.

Social-Emotional

1. Helping Hands
• Let children help fold towels, clean toys, or set the table.

Please have lots of meaningful conversations with your children. Talking with your child every day is one of the most important things you can do. Children learn through conversations when you talk, listen, and respond, you are building their brain, their confidence, and their language skills. Just remember, every word matters.
