Congratulations to TMU alumnus Kelley Edwards on being named the next Chief of Police for the Flowery Branch Police Department! Weâre proud to see our alumni leading and making an impact in their communities.
Kelley Edwards has been named the next Chief of Police for the Flowery Branch Police Department. Edwards, who currently serves as Captain with the Hall County Sheriffâs Office, will assume leadership after current Chief, Christopher Hulsey, retires on September 30th. Hulsey announced his retirement in September just two months before what would have been 20 years with the department in November. He became Chief in March of 2022. Edwards brings nearly three decades of law enforcement experience with the Hall County Sheriffâs Office, where he has served in a variety of operational, training, supervisory, and command positions. Since 2020, he has served as Captain of the Judicial Services Division and Special Teams. Throughout his career, Edwards has demonstrated a commitment to professional development, community safety, officer training, and effective leadership. His education includes a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Truett McConnell University, along with extensive advanced training in supervision, management, executive leadership, and law enforcement instructor certifications. âI am deeply honored by the opportunity to serve as Chief of Police,â said Edwards. âI look forward to building upon the strong foundation already in place, strengthening our relationship with the community, and serving with integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to public safety.â Current Chief Hulsey added, âI have worked alongside Kelley for over 20 years. I am 100 % confident that he will do an outstanding job serving as the Flowery Branch Police Chief and a great leader for the entire city government and community.â City Manager Tonya Parrish, who oversaw the hiring process, had this to say, âWe could not be more pleased to welcome Kelley Edwards to Flowery Branch. Our search generated more than 20 applications, followed by interviews with 5 candidates before a 5-member panel. Throughout the process, Kelley showed a sincere understanding of our community and the special relationship our Police Department has with the people it serves. Because of his many years of professional and personal involvement in the area, he is serving a community he knows and values.â
