CAEC is a membership service organization working to strengthen art education and advocate on behalf of arts learning for people of all ages and circumstances.

The Cleveland Arts Education Consortium (CAEC), in-residence at Cleveland State University, convenes educators from the county’s large and small arts organizations to share information and support. Since the organization was founded in 1999, meetings and special events have expanded awareness about CAEC’s work in the community and the value of the arts in life-long learning. Coupled with the 2008

There is so much care and goodness around. Consortium members celebrating their seasonal work, summer plans and students of every age and ability. The CAEC member network is simply remarkable. Connections between us all are essential. Our recent Belonging program at LGBT Center of Gr Cleveland yielded wonderful observations and things to ponder. More to come.

Tonight I happened to see the CMSD Building Better Futures commercial with Mayor Bibb. It’s terrific - and clearly includes the arts as part of a well-rounded, fulsome education! Yea rah!!

Shedeur Sanders’ first home start: 16-of-25 passes for 149 yards and 1 TD. Cleveland, how do you grade his performance?

Our CAEC Nov 17 program with funder panelists moderated by CANDID’s Dave Holmes with a special presentation by Creative Ohio’s ED Sarah Sisser brought out a huge audience of interested arts educators and colleagues. Lots to chew on, think and talk about. Thank you to all!

Times are surprising and daunting! However, I love what I am lucky to do: make music with colleagues, enjoy exhibitions, performances and so much more — and through CAEC, connect and collaborate with arts and arts education providers and others across Greater Cleveland and farther afield.

I’ve been thinking about images and words and finding soulful escapes in books I’ve had a long time.

A recent learning session reminded me of the words and works of Langston Hughes, his remarkable time in Cleveland and long-term relationship with Karamu House, and his immense love of music and poetry. He wrote many books for children including “The Book of Rhythms” available in a beautiful 1995 Oxford University Press, Inc. edition with an Introduction by Wynton Marsalis and Illustrations by Matt Wawiorka.

Still Here by Langston Hughes

I been scarred and battered.
My hopes the wind done scattered.
Snow has friz me,
Sun has baked me,

Looks like between ‘em they done
Tried to make me

Stop laughin’, stop lovin’, stop livin’ - -
But I don’t care!
I’m still here!

We are launching our Cleveland Arts Education Consortium Fall-Winter 2025-2026 Ready2Go Arts Programs booklet this week. It is packed with introductory and immersive arts learning opportunities in dance and movement, drama and theater, all styles of music from classical to rock and jazz, visual art and printmaking, film and photography, creative writing, illustrating and cultural storytelling.

The first section showcases Cleveland Arts Education Consortium members’ programs and activities. It is followed with examples of other online arts learning, nearby and farther away. Use a thumbnail sidebar to navigate from section to section — or click the hyperlink heading in the list that follows.

ADVOCACY for the ARTS these days is critically important.

The ARTS are the connective glue for us all. Especially now.

We cannot afford to lose the ARTS and ARTS LEARNING in our schools and communities. In fact, we need more ARTS to help us, now, in every way.

It is important to know how, when and where we need to use our ADVOCACY voices and ADVOCACY techniques, especially with the drastic actions at this time to dismantle federal entities, including the Department of Education.

Mark June 5-6 on your calendar and plan to join CAEC for a Two-Day workshop in Cleveland where you can learn more to shape your own organization's ADVOCACY plans.
