The Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) has elected six accomplished leaders to its Board of Trustees, further strengthening the institution’s commitment to providing transformative educational opportunities for the next generation of musicians. Elected unanimously on July 7, the new trustees bring expertise spanning business, law, medicine, philanthropy, entrepreneurship, and community leadership.
While sorting through Cleveland Institute of Music’s storage, librarian Bonnie Houser Eggers uncovered a stunning piece of CIM and Piano Cleveland history—a gold ring, featuring a bouquet of pearls and diamonds, from Van Cleef & Arpels Inc.
Starting this week, Piano Cleveland will host the Cleveland International Piano Competition for Young Artists, with performances at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Cleveland Institute of Music’s hallways have been filled with music as Summer Institute programming took over classrooms, practice space and the concert halls.
Programs included Chamber Music Intensive and Advanced String Quartet, Violin Peak Performance, Young Composers, Summer Brass Lab and Young Artist Piano Seminar.

The Cleveland Institute of Music announces a distinguished new chapter for its orchestral program with the appointment of internationally acclaimed conductor Tito Muñoz as Director and Principal Conductor of the CIM Orchestra and Visiting Professor of Orchestral Studies, effective Fall 2026.
Joining him is renowned conductor Anthony Parnther, who has been named Principal Guest Conductor.

In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, Cleveland Institute of Music alumnus Dr. Timothy Kalil, piano (BM ’74/MM ’76), will have a performance from his piano CD, Aaron Copland Piano Sonata, aired on National Public Radio via WYSU (wysu.org) on July 2 at 12:07 p.m. EST. Dr. Kalil performed this sonata for his second master’s recital in 1976 during the United States Bicentennial celebration. To listen to Dr. Kalil’s performance, please visit wysu.org.

Congratulations to Cleveland Institute of Music Trustee Sanford Watson, as it was recently announced that he was named as one of seven inductees to the Class of 2026 Shaker Schools Alumni Hall of Fame.
