Can you do these 🔥VOCAL TECHNIQUES🔥? It can take a while to get the hang of them, but mastering vocal techniques will make your singing so much more interesting! 🎤✨

Here is a breakdown of what’s in the video:

Twang: A bright, brassy resonance technique that helps your voice cut through the mix with ease.

Riff / Run: Rapidly singing a series of notes in quick succession on a single vowel sound.

Bend: Pitch-sliding smoothly into or out of a targeted note for extra stylistic flair.

Trill: A rapid alteration between two adjacent musical notes, creating a flickering effect.

Yodel: A quick, intentional flip between your chest voice and head voice.

Vibrato: A natural, rhythmic variation in pitch that adds warmth and depth to sustained notes.

🛑 Stop OVERTHINKING vibrato! Try this exercise daily to build flexibility in your voice.

If you want a beautiful, healthy vibrato (which is really just a natural, rapid fluctuation in pitch), you have to master three things:

1. Zero tension.

2. Maximum vocal flexibility.

3. Turning off your brain.

This exercise where I hit the same note repeatedly is my absolute favorite way to train this.

It trains your vocal muscles to attack a note with precision and then immediately relax into freedom, rather than gripping for dear life.

Practicing regularly will help let your voice bounce naturally.

👀 Don’t take the easy way out (Stay in mix!)👇

Navigating the transition from A to C # in mixed voice is easily one of the trickiest zones for most people. It’s that exact middle ground where the voice naturally wants to pull apart, but this 30-second exercise is all about building a seamless bridge instead.

Save this post, take a second to focus, and let’s run through it.

Here is how to get it to click:

1. Aim for a bright, nasal tone to help you lock into that resonant sweet spot for mix.

2. Take a deep, intentional breath right before each round so you have enough support.

3. Don't back off the power or quiet down when the notes get higher, stay committed to the sound.

4. Project from your nasal resonators, focusing the vibration right in the mask of your face.

Be patient and fight the urge to automatically flip into head voice.

This specific region takes time and muscle memory to master, so if it feels a little shaky at first, just loop the video and try again.

😳 Does your voice sound "pinched"?

Anticipating the consonants when singing is one of the most common things that holds back a free, resonant voice!

Here’s why we do it: When we speak, our brains are wired to rely heavily on consonants to get our point across quickly. Spoken language is fast, choppy, and efficient.

But singing is a whole different ball game.

Singing is sustained speech. The tone, the beauty, and the power of your voice actually live entirely inside the vowel sounds. Consonants are just the little goalposts that start and end the sound.

When you anticipate the consonant, you choke off your air supply and cut your resonance short.

The secret? Hang onto that vowel for 95% of the note, and flick the consonant away at the very last millisecond!

🫣 Your voice isn't FLIPPING because you're fighting it.

So many singers think the glottal shift is a bad thing and try to smooth it right out of their voice. But it can actually be your BEST FRIEND for vocal flips! It adds that effortless, cool stylistic edge to your favorite songs.

The glottal shift is what triggers that vocal flip in the first place, using a brief, intentional release of breath pressure to let your vocal cords instantly change thickness so your voice can snap cleanly between registers.

Here is how we train it:

1️⃣ Repeat "you" a few times in a thick, heavy chest voice, like your normal speaking voice.

2️⃣ Switch to "hoo" in your head voice, making it soft and airy like a dove.

3️⃣ Alternate between them to isolate that heavy vocal fold intensity from the light intensity.

4️⃣ Do a slow vocal bend up into the high note, letting go of some of the volume as you go up to help activate the glottal shift and trigger the flip!

👀 Step 4 is the HARD PART! Give yourself some grace if it takes a minute to click. Keep practicing until you can isolate the shift for 3 clean flips back-to-back.

❌️ Be honest.. are your riffs like this? 🫣 Like the pitches are undefined, there’s zero styling, and you totally lose the melody halfway through?

Let’s fix that. The exercise I’m breaking down in this reel is usually one of the very FIRST vocal agility exercises I give to my students. It looks simple.. but it is so much harder than it seems for beginners.

Here’s how to approach riffs:

👉 Count the exact number of pitches in the riff.

👉 Group those pitches into sets of threes.

👉 Lean into the first note of each set to inject some styling.

👉 Practice it slowly and accurately before you try to speed it up.

If you're ready to take your voice to the next level, I’ve got you.

⭐️Comment “RIFF” and I’ll send you the invite to join my singing group on Skool! It’s free to start (just make sure you’re following me so my DM can find you! 💜)
