The Department of Medicine is incredibly proud to congratulate Drs. Irfan Helmy, Varun Sundaram, Mohamad Karnib, and Padmini Selvaganesan for an extraordinary international achievement!

Dr. Irfan Helmy has been nominated for the prestigious Young Investigator Award (YIA) at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress this August in Munich, Germany!

His AHA-funded study, evaluating GLP-1 RA in heart failure patients, ranked in the top 4 abstracts for the entire heart failure section. This incredible milestone represents a massive collaborative effort between the Cleveland VA, University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, King’s College London, the University of Glasgow, and the Mayo Clinic.

Before celebrating our graduates at the annual Spring Dinner, the 2025–2026 housestaff gathered for a special photo on the front steps of the Lakeside building. This cherished tradition has been keeping history alive every spring since the 1950s!

On May 28th, the Department of Medicine gathered at the Tinkham Veale Ballroom for our annual Spring Dinner. It was a beautiful evening dedicated to honoring our incredible graduating resident class and celebrating the faculty members who make their success possible.

We are incredibly proud to announce that the second annual Robert A. Salata Medal for Leadership and Compassion in Patient Care was awarded to Dr. Robert Bonomo. Dr. Bonomo truly exemplifies what it means to lead with heart and dedication. 🎖️❤️

We also recognized 20 other outstanding trainees and faculty members for their exceptional contributions this past year.
