桃の節句の和菓子、西王母。March 3rd celebrates Hinamatsuri, the Doll Festival, a day to pray for the healthy growth and happiness of girls.
“Seiobo” takes its name from the Queen Mother of the West, guardian of the peaches of immortality in Chinese legend.
In Japan, the peach is cherished as a symbol of protection and longevity.

Made from delicately steamed uirō and filled with rich yolk bean paste, this sweet expresses blessings through its peach form and gentle color.

Featured as March’s confection in our 12-month wagashi course lessons.
May all young ladies grow up in good health.

3月3日は雛祭り。女の子の健やかな成長と幸せを願う日。
「西王母」は、中国神話の西王母が司る不老長寿の桃に由来します。
桃は日本でも魔除けと長寿の象徴。

ういろう製の生地で黄身あんを包み、桃の姿に仕立てました。
形に祈りを託す和菓子です。

二十四節気のひとつ、雨水（うすい）。
降る雪が雨へと変わり、氷がゆっくりと溶けはじめるころ。
昔からこの季節は、農耕の準備を始める目安とされてきました。

山の雪が溶け、田畑や人々を潤す雪解けの水。
それは「雪汁（ゆきじる）」「雪消の水」とも呼ばれ、
時に川や海を淡く濁らせる様子を「雪濁り」と言うそうです。

真っ白な百合根と黒豆を、みずみずしい寒天でかためた百合根寒。
雪解けの水の透明感と、静かにほどけていく冬の情景を映しました。
やわらかく始まる春の気配を、感じていただけたら嬉しいです。

Usui is one of the 24 solar terms,
when snow turns to rain and ice slowly begins to melt.
Traditionally, this season marked the beginning of preparations for farming.

As mountain snow melts, the water nourishes the land and its people.
Sometimes this meltwater gently clouds rivers and seas, a scene poetically called “snow haze.”

Pure white lily bulbs and black beans set in fresh, clear agar.
This sweet reflects the transparency of melting snow and the quiet transition from winter to spring.

Known as “Sh*ta-moe” in Japan, these early sprouts herald spring.
日本では「下萌え」と呼ばれ、春の訪れを告げる和菓子

The pristine white lily bulb echoed the quiet whiteness of the snow.
真っ白な百合根は、真っ白な雪にぴったり。

Creating this piece was a gentle and inspiring moment.
春の兆しを想いながら作る、穏やかで心温まる時間でした。

初午の日、稲荷神社では 初午祭 が行われます。
On the first “horse day” of the lunar year, festivals are held at Inari shrines.

初午祭の和菓子は、狐、ねじり棒、大福豆の練り切りと、繭の形の初午団子。
The Japanese sweets for the Hatsuuma Festival are fox-shaped, twisted sticks, bean made with nerikiri and cocoon-shaped Hatsuuma dumplings.

今年も豊かで健康な一年になりますように。
