Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write Dolly started her Imagination Library in 1995 for the children within her home county. Today, her program spans five countries and gifts millions of free books each month to children around the world.

We’ll always love you, Dolly. 🥺

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free books to children from birth until they begin school in participating areas.

As school begins, don’t wait for your child to fall further behind before asking for help.

Struggling with reading, spelling, writing, or remembering what was taught is not always a lack of effort.

Sometimes, the missing piece is understanding why learning is difficult and finding the right support.

Early intervention can change the path forward. 📚

Does this sound familiar? Has the school told you that everything is fine because grades are outstanding, however, you see the struggle at home?

Kids are smart. They learn ways to compensate until they just can’t anymore and then it leaves parents scratching their heads because the school said everything was fine, look at their grades. 📚

Your child's IEP is more than paperwork. It's the roadmap for their education.

One of the biggest mistakes parents make is agreeing and/or signing an IEP without looking closely at the goals.

Schools are responsible for the goals written in the IEP not the goals you wish had been included. Make sure they're meaningful, measurable, and ambitious enough to help your child make real progress.
Don't be afraid to ask questions or request changes before you sign.

Read every goal. Ask questions. Advocate with confidence. 📚

This is one of the most important things parents and educators need to understand about the IEP process.

The school is only held responsible for the goals that are written into the IEP and agreed upon by the team.

If the goals are too easy, too broad, not measurable, or don't accurately address the student's needs, it becomes much more difficult to hold anyone accountable for meaningful progress.

That's why the goal-writing process matters so much.

Before signing an IEP, take the time to ask:
✔️ Does this goal address a documented need?
✔️ Is it specific and measurable?
✔️ Will achieving this goal help the student make meaningful progress?
✔️ Are the services and supports aligned to help the student reach it?

An IEP is more than a compliance document. It's a roadmap for a student's education. The stronger the goals, the clearer the path forward.

Never be afraid to ask questions, request clarification, or suggest revisions before the IEP is finalized.

Reading isn't about memorizing or guessing. It's about having the tools to decode words confidently, with or without pictures. That's the difference explicit instruction makes. 📚
