A Look at the State of IWA

Wednesday evening, we gathered at Saint Joseph Hall for our State of the School event—a wonderful opportunity to bring together faculty, parents, alumni, the Sisters, and IWA Board members as we celebrated where we are and looked ahead to where we are going.

Our school leadership team shared the exciting work happening throughout Incarnate Word Academy:

Board Chair Matt Blazer, a former IWA parent, shared insight into the role of the IWA Board and the importance of strong leadership and community partnership.

President Mike Wisnor introduced our new strategic plan, Vision 2030: Incarnate Wisdom. Global Mission. This plan provides a clear vision for our future while building on the strong foundation of our past.

Principal Steffany Congelio shared the many exciting things happening inside our school—from innovative learning and new opportunities for students to the continued growth of our programs, faculty, and school community.

It was a special evening filled with pride, gratitude, and excitement for the future of IWA. Our school continues to grow because of the commitment of so many people who believe in our mission and our students.

As we look toward 2030, we remain grounded in who we are and inspired by where we are going.

Our past inspires our future.

Registration for CYO Winter sports for boys and girls basketball and cheerleading are now open.

Registration for both sports are open until October 20, 2026. CYO offers boys and girls basketball for students in grades 3-8 and cheerleading is open to students in grades 1-8.

We wrapped up Legacy Week with our Family Mass and Ice Cream Social Saturday evening!

Generations of IWA families were present, along with the Sisters of the Incarnate Word, to worship together as a community.

Remembering September 11

Today, our Preparatory students paused to remember September 11, 2001, as we mark the 25th anniversary of this tragic day in our nation’s history.

After completing their Warrior Summer Read, The Red Bandanna, students continued their learning by reading an article in Junior Scholastic that provided additional historical context. They then participated in Fishbowl conversations, reflecting on how the events of 9/11 impacted our nation, our communities, and the world—and how its legacy continues to shape our lives today.

The morning also included prayer and reflection with the Hallow App and a Litany of the Saints. Eighth grader Lincoln S. offered a beautiful musical reflection by singing “Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning.”

A special shout-out to Mr. Daley, IWA Director of Safety and retired Cleveland Police Officer, who shared photos from New York City, where he participated in the 25th anniversary parade and events.

Most importantly, today reminded us that remembering is an act of faith. As a Catholic community, we pray for those who lost their lives, those who continue to carry the wounds of that day, and all who have served and sacrificed to protect others.

We are called to be people of hope, compassion, courage, and service—living out our mission to Learn, Love, Serve and choosing to be a light for others, even in difficult times.

Meeting our new Prayer Partners!

This week, our youngest Warriors met their new Prayer Partners for the 2026-27 school year.

Throughout the year, these partners will meet and engage in religious activities, attend Mass together, and simply have fun!

Opportunities like this help create connections and build relationships within our school.

Celebrating Our Legacy
This week, our IWA community celebrated Legacy Week, a special tradition established in 2021 through the inspiration of Sister Rosemary Burke and in collaboration with IWA Assistant Principal Mrs. Alexis Flinn.

Each September, we take time to celebrate our heritage, deepen our faith, and recognize the people who have helped shape the IWA community we know and love today.

Throughout the week, classrooms explored the Sacred Spaces throughout our campus, our students met with their prayer partners, created timelines of the Sisters journey to Cleveland, and students enjoyed a special sneak peek of the Covenant as they toured the third floor and explored artifacts from the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament. These treasures provided a tangible connection to our history and helped students learn more about the Sisters and their lasting impact on our school.

Our Preparatory students also spent time learning about Sisters of the Incarnate Word who have passed away, making meaningful connections to their lives, their service, and the legacy they left behind.

This year's Legacy Week has been especially meaningful as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament. We are grateful for the Sisters and for the generations of students, families, faculty, and staff who have carried their mission forward.
