I think Ireland is a great place to study abroad and change your environment to jump out of your comfort zone. One of the main reasons is that English is the main language here. Even though I am not a native speaker, I can still understand most of the accents and don’t need to learn a new language.
Some people might argue that Ireland is not as popular or typical as other European countries, but that is what I like about studying in a country that is not a tourist destination. I really enjoy the pace of life in Ireland. It’s really chill and relaxing, which gives me a lot more time to reflect on myself and explore my interests.
I am someone who loves to change my environment all the time. That’s why I studied abroad in the US first and now I’m doing an exchange in Ireland. I think changing the environment is absolutely important, especially when you feel stuck in your mind in the same place over and over again and feel a loss of yourself.
Sometimes a new environment can bring challenges or fears. I felt scared at the airport traveling from Taiwan to Ireland, even though it was my fourth time flying to study abroad. I was afraid of not making enough friends or not exploring the place or culture enough, which might make my experience feel meaningless. But to be honest, we don’t need to define a journey by ourselves or question if it is worth it or not. All the special experiences shape the journey on their own!
What I love about traveling and going abroad is not only learning about different cultures but also learning about a different me. O(∩_∩)O

Amazing Sunday day trip in Bologna! Had our bolognese samplings, got some parmesan, saw some churches and art museums, climbed a tower…..but mainly indulged in the Italian food capital offerings. Still truly blown away by the fact that I’m just a short train ride away from iconic Italian towns like this one

What makes Milan such a unique place to be a student abroad - I think Milan is one of the best places to study abroad. Milan is a very international city with amazing access to so many famous spots and natural landscapes of northern Italy. Milan isn’t what you typically think of Italy. Yes, it has the Italian architecture but it doesn’t have the same Italian edge that Rome, Venice, and Florence have. Milan is a super diverse, international city and its extremely metropolitan. While other Italian cities are flooded with tourists, Milan’s tourists are mainly concentrated by the Duomo while the rest of the city is very residential. Because its international, the food scene here is very diverse as well, which I love. Since there are so many schools in Milan, there are so many international students around the city, making it so easy to meet people and build connections. PLUS Milan is so easily accessible to get you anywhere in Europe. Its so cheap to fly to any European city plus the high speed train systems can take you on day trips all around Italy. Lake Como, Verona, Lugano, Cinque Terre, Florence, Bologna - all accessible within a 1-2 hour train ride. There is so much of this region I have been able to see because of how accessible it is

Meeting people abroad - Being the only person from CWRU Law on this program, I moved to Milan knowing absolutely nobody and went into this program completely by myself. Leading up to this program, I was honestly so nervous about not having anyone else with me and worried how I was going to meet people. I just assumed I was going to be alone for four months. This has been compeletely the opposite. What I love about Bocconi is that there are over 1,400 exchange students, making it super easy to meet people! The first week of school, Bocconi had several welcome week orientation events geared towards exchange students plus they have an ESN chapter, a student led volunteer organization that coordinate social events and trips throughout the semester specially for exchange students. Between these events and my classes, meeting people and making friends has been super easy! With such a big exchange program, I have met and befriended students from all over the world which I absolutely love! Everyone is super friendly and so open minded. It’s so cool to hear about different cultures and where people are coming from. I’m so glad I picked a school with such a big exchange student population, as I feel like it’s opened my world even more (beyond just being abroad to begin with)

Is South Africa safe? I know you’re thinking it…
Yes! Many people have a huge misunderstanding about Africa and it’s honestly sad. As long as you have common sense (like in any big city) you should be fine! I feel safer here than I do in NYC (there aren’t fi****ms here). So if safety is what’s stopping you from considering South Africa, it’s time to book your flight now! Coming to South Africa is the best decision I’ve ever made!
