This five-week introductory course will teach creatives the common skills and processes used to create characters for the movie, comic book, video game, and manga art industries. Students will learn the process of taking a character idea from the initial concept, through all the stages to arrive at the final design. Sad news reached me that my friend Elena Chin has gone on to whatever comes next. She was probably my biggest supporter when I opened up the Denver Entertainment Art and Design Academy back in 2012 and took a lot of the FX makeup classes and came down to hang out on First Fridays on the Santa Fe Art Walk and get zombified, painted, or to do her own zombie makeup on visitors. I searched my phone and FB for pictures of her without the FX or paint, but I can't find any. I'm sure I have some in my photo archives on a hard drive, but she loved doing and supporting practical FX, so I'm going with it. Last time I saw her in person was when we went to the Guillermo del Toro art gallery in L.A. a few years back (I know I have pictures of that somewhere...). I don't have any specific details so I can't say much more than "she's gone."

Beneath the fetid water of the treacherous swamplands lie dangers unseen. Spawned in the dark, a bask of crocodiles grew too cunning, adopting the ways and forms of the swamp folk living along the shores. Tools and weapons made from the land brought success and expanded their territories, and now they find themselves in conflict with a tribe of humans. These nightmare beings swim unseen among the crocodiles, waiting in ambush to strike. And they find the flavor of the flesh of man very appealing…
