Virtual Classroom ✅
This week we received an update about our schools reopening plan. We will be going remotely until further notice. Although this is the safer and better plan, it’s still feels...well😩.
Meanwhile, I have no idea what the first day of school is suppose to look like but this trend is so much fun to play around with and get motivated for online learning.
I’m obsessed with how this turned out. I’m keeping it simple so the kids don’t get too distracted on the first day.
And remember, don’t feel like you have to do something just because it’s trending for now. I did play around with but that doesn’t mean I have to use it.
DO YOU! Do what you think will work best for you. There will be a lot of trial and error as we all try to figure things out.
Now moving on to project 2: making my own google site for easy access to classroom information for both parents and students.
Let me know if you have any tips and/or tricks to make this process a little easier in the comments below.👇🏼

Last Monday, my school reopening plans were sent out. The plan is to return in person on September 8th with parents having the option to opt-in for remote learning. I’m still trying to wrap my head around it all.
🏫
The excitement of setting up my classroom to meet my new kiddos and the fear of it not being safe enough even with all the safety protocols.
🏫
I don’t know whether to be happy, excited, scared, or anxious. Maybe all of those things which is a bit overwhelming.
🏫
I know there is still time for plans to change but of course my teacher brain knows that no matter what the beginning of the year looks like, we will always work on building a class community.
🏫
Our Class is a Family by Shannon is the perfect book to begin the year and start building those family/community relationships.
🏫
It perfectly depicts the message that each classroom is a special kind of family as long as we are kind, have each other’s backs, and celebrate one another’s uniqueness. I love the bright and colorful illustrations that go along with the text!
🏫
I’m looking forward to reading this with each new school year and classroom family!

I absolutely love the message behind this book. Young Gifted and Black includes 52 heroes from the past and present.
Together Jamia Wilson and Andrea Pippins hope to encourage the next generation to become artists, activists, doers, makers, healers, and dreamers.
I don’t know how or what the first day of school will look like but I do know this book alongside many others will be displayed to inspire my students to become whatever they aspire to be and what better way then by reading about people just like them.

I received this book a couple of days ago in the mail through a community book exchange on here and it’s definitely a must read.
Dear Martin by Nic Stone is a powerful story that showcases the history and present of racism in America by outlining that white people with privilege should acknowledge their advantages and their own implicit biases since pretending that racism is no longer an issue makes it harder to address the racial injustice and systemic racism.
Justyce is top of his class but none of that mattered to the police officer that put him in handcuffs. Justyce writes in his journal that he addresses to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (hence the title) for answers because he admires King’s teachings, but do they still hold up anymore?

13TH is a strong, conscience raising social justice documentary. I learned a lot and I am definitely awakened by the information.
Part of change is being aware of the actual truths of our justice system. The impact of how our laws and justice systems are put into place by a group of people who are not elected, who are not lawmakers, but can pull the strings.
REFORM or RECONSTRUCTION?
If history has taught us anything, then we know that dismantling the system is the change we truly need.
I remember taking an African American studies class during my first years in college. I didn’t think anything of it but I would get a lot of questions from friends about why am I taking the class. I’m glad I did. I learned so much from my professor at the time. He had us read books and discuss them in class. I am so grateful he did. These books challenged the history and the system I thought I understood.
I was never much of a reader and couldn’t wait to hand in my books at the end of each semester but I kept these books because of the impact I felt afterwards.
Most of us are learning, unlearning, listening, reading, and challenging ourselves to do better. There are lists of things we could do BUT...
The solution is not a one-answer fits all. I could list different petitions, donations, or 1-800 numbers to call but we can all play a part in the change by finding what you are most passionate about? What part of this whole crazy system speaks to your heart?❤️
Antiracism should be a way of life that we constantly commit to and as educators, we commit to in our classrooms because we play an essential role in making sure we are teaching truths to our students.

• توكل | TRUST •
Trust is defined as the firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.
In Islam the word trust contains an ocean of meaning. From the توكل (tawakkul) perspective, it means to put your trust in God (Allah). One of Allah’s many beautiful names is Al Wakeel-the disposer of affairs. So Tawakkul means to put one’s best efforts to solve a problem and then leave the results to Allah’s will.
Tawakkul is sometimes mistaken for being laid back and thinking your problems will solve itself. Tawakkul (trust in Allah) is striving and working with the attitude that Allah will take care of your affairs and will help you in getting through your trials.
The beloved Prophet Muhammad said: tie your camel first, then put your trust in Allah. This saying refers to doing your part in solving an issue and then trusting God for the outcome.
I received this beautiful necklace as an early birthday gift from a special friend/sister . It couldn’t have come in a more better time as we all go through difficult times in life.
This necklace is a perfectly beautiful reminder of trust|توكل.

If you have been following along the past couple of weeks, we introduced books to our students with Muslim characters and/or authors for reading week. So this week I kept this book to share with my little friends since it has some amazingly diverse Muslim women. Some we may have heard of and some were even new to me!
If you liked the books She Persisted and She persisted Around the World then this book is no different! With 19 stories about women who have who followed their dreams and made strides in their fields and have overcome stereotypes by changing the world around them for the better.
Thank you and for making such a beautifully made book.
