"The next time your district or local media outlet refers to 'vouchers' costing a billion dollars without any reference to the number of students served or the amount public school districts spend over a comparable period … Look them up! When you hear anti-parental-choice spokespeople claim that the legislature has 'reduced its spending on public school funding' because the state’s actual 3.68% increase this biennium is not as high as they would have liked … You can search for the facts! EdChoice is, in fact, the best value for taxpayers in Ohio."

Happy Feast Day St. Thomas More School, Brooklyn Ohio!

Today is the feast of saints John Fisher and Thomas More.
John Fisher was the bishop of Rochester (England) in the 1500s. Thomas More was a married layman who worked in Parliament.

Both men were caught in the controversy surrounding King Henry VIII who sought to divorce Catherine of Aragon and marry Anne Boleyn. Bishop Fisher represented Catherine in court supporting the legality of her marriage to the king. Meanwhile, Thomas More resigned from his position from Parliament.

Bishop Fisher and Thomas were thrown into prison and beheaded after refusing to take an oath to declare King Henry’s new marriage valid.

John Fisher is the patron of the Diocese of Rochester, New York, and Thomas More is the patron of statesmen, politicians, and lawyers.

Sts. John Fisher and Thomas More, pray for us!

Happy Feast Day Sacred Heart School!

Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. On this day, we honor the heart of Jesus and His abounding love for humanity.

The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart was added to the Church’s calendar in 1856 but has earlier roots following the visions of Jesus from Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque. Through her revelations about Jesus’ sacred heart, Sr. Margaret Mary encouraged a Thursday Holy Hour, First Friday Communion and the celebration of today’s feast.

Happy Feast Day, St. Barnabas Catholic School!

Today is the feast day of St. Barnabas.

Barnabas was a leader of the early Church and ministered to Christians in Jerusalem. He was also close to St. Paul and assisted him in his mission work.

Together, Paul and Barnabas evangelized, with much success, the Gentiles. Despite their efforts, not all took kindly to their message, and they were chased out of various cities.

Barnabas was martyred in his hometown of Cyprus where he is now their patron.

St. Barnabas, pray for us!
