Mr. Hardin’s 6th grade science class put popcorn to the test! Students investigated which brand leaves the fewest unpopped kernels while practicing the scientific method from start to finish. They developed hypotheses, collected and graphed data, analyzed their results, and drew conclusions based on the evidence.🍿

We are excited to celebrate Birchwood alumnus Aadhi Devarajan, Class of 2026 and current Hawken student, who has been named a Top 300 Junior Innovator in the 2026 Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge, a program of Society for Science!
Selected from nearly 2,000 students across the country, Aadhi earned this national recognition for his science fair project. Congratulations, Aadhi!

Throwback Thursday!
The Leadership Program has long been an important part of Birchwood. A look back to 2016, when Mrs. Debelak was explaining the role of the recycling team.
This week our 8th graders received their leadership jobs. At Birchwood, our 7th and 8th grade students have the opportunity to lead by example, take responsibility, and contribute to our school community.

Mr. Miller’s 7th and 8th grade science students put OREO cookies to the test to answer an important question: Do Double Stuff OREOs actually have twice the filling of regular OREOs? This exercise refreshed their measuring skills with the triple-beam balance, and science logic while collecting data. Students found the mass of the whole cookie, the filling, and a chocolate wafer for 3 cookies of each type. The class will compile their data and make a graph of the class averages. Results pending analysis.
