💧🔬 Water Filters STEM Project: Day 1! 🧪🌎
Today, our third graders kicked off an exciting, hands-on STEM project! We began by reviewing the parts of the water cycle and discussing how water in streams, lakes, puddles, and other natural sources can become dirty. We talked about why we can’t drink or use this water as it is and how filters can help remove dirt and other materials to make water cleaner! 💦
Then came the FUN part… we took clean water and made it DIRTY! 😱 Students used soil, grass, seeds, vinegar, oil, saw dust, and more to create their own examples of dirty water.
Next, we introduced the Engineering Design Process (EDP)! 🛠️ Using the first steps of the process, students identified the problem: How can we filter dirty water? 💧 We brainstormed possible solutions and discussed how creativity, problem-solving, and testing can tackle real-world challenges.
Now, our young engineers are ready to put their ideas to the test! 👩🔬👨🔬
Stay tuned this week as students begin designing, building, and testing their own water filters to see how clean they can get their dirty water!
