As we close out National Arts in Education Week, we’re excited to share and officially unveil a brand-new installation created through a special partnership with the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

This past May, Arts Impact had the opportunity to work alongside the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities to bring a vision to life that allowed their artists to be part of the creative process from beginning to end. Just as importantly, it gave them the chance to see something they personally helped create become part of a finished installation that could be proudly displayed and experienced by others.

We want to extend a huge thank you to the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities for trusting us with the opportunity to collaborate, as well as to all of our Arts Integration Specialists who helped make the project happen. From leading the different workshops to prepping materials, assembling pieces, and helping with the final installation, this was truly a collective effort.

It feels fitting to close out National Arts in Education Week by celebrating a project that reflects so much of why this work matters: it gives people opportunities to create, collaborate, express themselves, and see their ideas become something real.

This year during National Arts in Education Week, we want to take a moment to show some love to a few (amongst the many) of our fellow Arts Integration Specialists doing this work every day. The time, energy, patience, and creativity you pour into your students matters, and the impact you make in those classrooms reaches a lot further than you may always get the chance to see.

When the arts are part of everyday learning, students are given more ways to connect, create, and imagine what’s possible.

Traditional origami includes a number of fundamental forms known as bases. A base—such as the Preliminary Base or Waterbomb Base—transforms a flat sheet of paper into a new arrangement of flaps and layers that can be developed into increasingly complex origami models.

For example, the Bird Base creates four flaps that can be shaped into two wings, a neck, and a tail—the foundation of the traditional origami crane. Becoming familiar with these classic bases is one of the most important first steps in learning the art of origami.

Pictured here is a traditional Japanese spinning top, folded from three sheets of paper. Learning this model provides a wonderful opportunity to explore many of the traditional origami bases and discover how they relate to one another. And, of course, it’s incredibly satisfying to watch them spin!

This spinning top is just one of many projects featured in the comprehensive curriculum of the upcoming Virtual Origami Camp. Designed for both kids and adults, the camp offers a unique and engaging way to build origami skills while exploring the rich traditions behind the art form.

Ages 8 to adult! This week-long introductory course is designed for those who are brand new to origami and for beginner folders who wish to level-up their origami game. No experience required! This comprehensive origami curriculum will open the door to a lifetime of folding.

A material kit with all the paper you need will be mailed to your door. All included in the ticket price!

Origami Camp is also a great resource for educators, including art teachers, who wish to bring origami into their classrooms.

Registrants will have access to the materials for one year after the livestreams - it’s fine to miss sessions, since they will be recorded and shared.

Congratulations to Arts Impact contract artist-educator, .jamespeake for being featured in the Morgan Conservatory’s 14th Annual Juried Exhibition. The show titled “A Hand of One’s Own” highlights paper as a creative medium and active substrate.

The exhibition is free to the public and on view through May 9th! To see more of James's extraordinary origami work, check out his YouTube channel .

It’s National SEL Week! In our 7th grade SEL program, students practice critical thinking and problem-solving through a hands-on “See, Walk, Do” activity.

It’s a fun challenge that shows how teamwork and communication make all the difference.
