Where Can I Complete My BWS DI Community Rotation?
No two intern experiences are exactly alike! Community rotation sites vary based on where interns live and the opportunities available in their area. Some common examples include:
-WIC programs
-Food banks and food distribution organizations
-State or county health departments
-Community gardens and farm-to-table programs
-Meals on Wheels programs
-University Extension programs
-YMCAs
-Head Start programs
-Offices for the Aging
No matter where you complete your rotation, you'll gain valuable real-world experience seeing how nutrition, public health, education, and community resources come together to support population health.

Esmira (Fall 2025 cohort) had the opportunity to complete her foodservice rotation at Sweet Water Union High School and learned that the school incorporates sustainable practices, including raising its own chickens for eggs! ๐ฅ
What a fun and hands-on way to see school nutrition, sustainability, and food systems come together in real life.

We are excited to officially welcome Trisha Sterringer, PhD, RDN, CSCS, as the Program Director of the BWS Dietetic Internship! ๐

After nearly 10 incredible years as Program Director of the BWS Dietetic Internship, Katie will be stepping away from her role to spend more time with her four children during this special season of life. ๐
Over the past decade, Katie has played an extraordinary role in shaping the BWS DI community and mentoring interns as they grew into compassionate and impactful nutrition professionals. Her leadership, support, and dedication have left a lasting mark on our program, alumni, preceptors, faculty, and beyond.
In Katieโs words:
โIt has truly been one of the greatest honors of my career to walk alongside our interns as they grew from students into compassionate, talented nutrition professionals.
Although stepping away is emotional, I am also incredibly excited for the future of the BWS Dietetic Internship and thrilled to welcome Trisha Sterringer as the new Program Director.โ
While it is bittersweet, we are deeply grateful for all Katie has given to the BWS DI program and community over the past decade, and we are so excited to welcome Trisha into this role as the program begins its next chapter.
Stay tuned for our post tomorrow as we officially introduce Dr. Trisha Sterringer!

Surprise, itโs Indigo (Spring 2026) ๐
One thing we always tell our interns going into the internship is to keep an open mind. Youโll learn so much, grow in ways you donโt expect, and have fun along the way, too.
Indigo was such a great sport during her community rotation, fully embracing the experience (costume and all ๐). With the support of her preceptor, she also stepped outside of her comfort zone and gave multiple presentations throughout the rotation. Go Indigo!
This kind of positive attitude and willingness to challenge yourself and stay open to new experiences is exactly what helps interns grow professionally throughout the internship. ๐
