CELEBRATING SUCESS

🏆 I won my Toastmasters Area Table Topics Contest last March 16, and I’m still kind of processing it.

For anyone who doesn’t know, Table Topics is the part where you’re given a completely random question and have to respond on the spot. No prep, no notes, and you have about one to two minutes to make it make sense. ⏱️ It’s a very different experience from prepared speeches. There’s no time to overthink or polish your message. Whatever comes out is a reflection of how you think in real time.

What surprised me most is that it’s not about having the “right” answer. It’s about staying present long enough to trust your own thoughts, even when you’re not entirely sure where you’re going at first.

There’s a moment right after the question is asked where your brain wants to panic or rush to something clever. I’m learning that the better move is to slow down, take a breath, and let one clear idea lead instead of trying to say everything at once.

I’ll be competing at the 🎤 Division Contest on April 18, and I know the level of competition will be higher. But more than anything, I’m just focusing on staying grounded and getting out of my own way.

If you’ve ever had to think on your feet in a high-pressure moment, you probably know the feeling. How do you handle it when you don’t have time to prepare? 🤔
