What is a death doula? A death doula, also called an end of life doula, provides emotional, educational, and practical support to people who are dying and the people who love them. We help families understand the dying process, create meaningful end of life plans, navigate hospice, preserve legacy, and feel less alone during one of life’s hardest moments. Death isn’t just a medical event. It’s a human one. If you’ve ever wondered what a death doula does or how end of life care works, follow along to learn more!

People always ask how I protect my mental health as a death doula. The answer is simple: I take self care seriously and without guilt. ā¤ļø

Compassion fatigue is real. Burnout is real. That’s why I prioritize rest, family time, nature, and joy just as intentionally as I show up for death and grief.

Sometimes the best way to honor the people I’ve lost is by fully living my own life. šŸŒŠā˜€ļø

The dying process is often misunderstood, but the body knows what it’s doing.

As a registered nurse and death doula, one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that many end of life changes are completely natural.

The more we understand death and dying, hospice care, and the natural end of life process, the less fear families have when those moments arrive.

Save this post for the day you need it, and share it with someone who might need it now.

Terminal agitation can cause restlessness, confusion, picking at sheets, trying to get out of bed, or sudden changes in behavior near the end of life.

It’s common, it’s misunderstood, and it doesn’t always mean someone is suffering.

Understanding the dying process helps families respond with less fear and more confidence. ā¤ļø

The work can wait.

The memories can’t.

When someone is actively dying, the family often stops taking care of themselves without even realizing it.

That’s when my role becomes gently stepping in and caring for them the way their loved one would if they could.

Because end-of-life care isn’t just about the person laboring out of life. It’s about holding the entire room together while love and grief collide in real time.

Have you ever had a time where you would’ve liked the support of a death doula?

As a death doula, I’ve had a front-row seat to what matters most at the end of life.

So buy the flowers.
Take the trip.
Say the thing.
Take the picture.
Spend time with the people you love.

Because none of us know how many pages are left in our story. ā¤ļø

Hi, I’m Kacie.

I’m a Registered Nurse, Death Doula, educator, author, and founder of Death Doula School.

I spend my days talking about the one thing most people avoid: death.

Because when we understand death a little better, we tend to live a little better too.

I’m glad you’re here. ā¤ļø

Both are profound transitions. Both ask us to surrender control. Both can be messy, unpredictable, beautiful, and deeply human. Both deserve support, education, and compassionate care. Both are a process of laboring.
