For decades, these rocks left mysterious trails across the desert — without anyone seeing them move. 🪨🏜️

At Racetrack Playa in Death Valley, even extremely heavy rocks appeared to travel across the dry lakebed on their own.

The explanation? Under the right conditions, thin sheets of ice break apart while wind pushes them across shallow meltwater, moving the rocks along with them. ❄️💨
