My Yellow Summer started with nail polish.
Not a strategy. Not a brand campaign. Nail polish. 💛
In the spring of 2013, I visited my daughter and got my nails painted yellow. Then I bought a yellow hat, she bought yellow shoes, and somewhere in the middle of it all, I decided to call it My Yellow Summer.
Once I named it, I started looking for yellow everywhere. Clothes, accessories, a Porsche that obviously required a photo, and a bicycle that wasn’t mine—but I asked the owner if I could pose with it because I was committed by then.
Other people joined in. They wore yellow, sent pictures, tagged me, and eventually came to a party where everyone had to wear yellow.
My Yellow Summer officially ended on September 21, my birthday. Dawntember.
I didn’t sit down and decide to create a movement. I was playing, celebrating myself, and creating reasons to enjoy my life.
People connected to that energy and started celebrating with me.
Years later, I began noticing the choices underneath these stories: the thoughts and words I changed, what I allowed myself to want, and the actions I took because of it. That path eventually led to the Awakened Woman, *You Get What You Get*, and now Dawntember in a completely different form.
This year, I’m inviting other women into it intentionally—not to become me, but to pay enough attention to themselves to discover what makes their own lives feel more like theirs.
And yes, we’ll celebrate too. I have 14 years of evidence that celebration can be surprisingly useful research. 💛
