Giving thanks Joy Willmott, our Case Western Reserve University colleague and friend who changed the lives of so many students, especially those residing in the "Recovery House" (for which she was uniquely instrumental in bringing into existence). Faculty and staff, struggling with addiction in their lives or the lives of their loved ones, also sought her out for help.

In her clinical work as a staff member of the University Counseling Services (UCS), Joy knew the perfect balance between "support" and "challenge" for students seeking her care and even those referred by the University's Office of Student Conduct; when those students walked through her door, we could see a 'twinkle' in her eye as she seemed to delight in reaching their resistant minds. In other ways at the UCS, Joy trained graduate social work students at MSASS in individual and group counseling and provided them with sage advice about investing in recovery, even when relapse occurred after initial treatment.

Many of my colleagues are indebted to her, as I am for the 20+ years she worked at the UCS. Even after retirement, she voluntarily returned to the UCS to help when staff vacancies occurred. I recall telling her that last two initials of her professional license LISW-S, LICDC-CS had to refer to "Continually Serving").

Farewell to our Distinguished University Alumnae. Farewell and thanks from the UCS staff and students at CWRU. We will long remember you for your passion and commitment to our University and to the venerable profession of healing struggling patients looking for rays of hope in life.

An amazing trailblazer in psychology, Dr. Bandura highlighted the significance of modeling human behavior in learning (violence vs respect), beginning with the Bobo Doll experiments at Stanford. The child of two immigrant parents (Poland and Ukraine), he earned degrees from the University of British Columbia and the University of Iowa.

He was most known for his Bobo doll experiment, in which children mimicked adults in attacking an inflatable doll. The work challenged basic tenets of psychology.

Considering the Food-Mood Connection: the benefits of nutritious foods in lifting depression and anxiety.

The sugar-laden, high-fat foods we often crave when we are stressed or depressed, as comforting as they are, may be the least likely to benefit our mental health.
