The purpose of FLMS is to promote protection, enhancement, conservation, restoration and management of Florida's aquatic resources.
The mission of the Florida Lake Management Society is to promote protection, enhancement, conservation, restoration and management of Florida’s aquatic resources; provide a forum for education and information exchange; and advocate environmentally sound and economically feasible lake and aquatic resources management for the citizens of Florida.

Members of the FLMS Board teamed up today at the 20th Carboard Boat Challenge in Lakeland. Our team, the Data Buoys, came in second place in the community onsite build category! Not bad for our first attempt. Thanks Team Members Rob Burnes, Lance Lumbard, Eesa Ali, Emily Keenan, Ernesto Lasso de la Vega & Maryann Krisovitch! Eesa amd Ernesto were our designated paddlers & did an excellent job! See you next year and watch out first place, we’re coming for you!

SPRINGS ACADEMY: SPRINGS BIOLOGY WITH DR. STEVE WALSH

Springs Academy is a free lecture series on Florida’s freshwater resources and springs. Each class is tailored to make learning quick and easy so you’re ready to hit the ground running as a springs expert.
The classes will be held on the second Tuesday of every month, from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. Participants who attend all 6 classes will receive a certificate of completion upon request. Discussion will go as deep as our time and audience allows.

Dr. Steve Walsh’s Biography:
Stephen J. Walsh is retired from the U.S. Geological Survey, where he was a research scientist for over 30 years. His interests are in the area of conservation biology, biodiversity, and ecology of aquatic organisms, primarily fishes. He has worked in freshwater and marine ecosystems in the southeastern and central U.S., Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, Neotropics, southeast Asia, western Pacific, and Africa. He has a B.A. degree (magnum cm laude) in Biology from St. Louis University, a M.Sc. degree in Zoology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and a Ph.D. in Zoology (now Biology) from the University of Florida, where he currently has courtesy faculty appointments in the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences, and the Florida Museum of Natural History (FLMNH). In addition to his current board service on the Howard T. Odum Florida Springs Institute and the Ichetucknee Alliance, he has served in numerous other professional capacities including with the American Fisheries Society, the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists, and the Southeastern Fishes Council. In his retirement, Steve enjoys traveling, tennis, swimming, kayaking, reading, photography, gardening, and curating the megadiverse Neotropical brush-footed butterflies of the genus Adelpha at the FLMNH McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity.

After learning about water restoration projects in the area, our winter workshop attendees had the opportunity to join a guided tour of the Winter Park Chain of Lakes with City staff and Scenic Boats Tours. FLMS appreciates both entities for their generous support!
