Under the assistance of Britain, Malta weathered countless attacks by N**i Germany & Fascist Italy bombers. Yet this little island with Megalithic sites older then Stonehenge and Fortifications built by the Knights endured and most of the historic sites remain intact.

If you visit Paris don't miss out on the Palace of Versailles
Louis XIII's hunting lodge before his son Louis XIV transformed and expanded it, moving the court and government of France to Versailles in 1682. Each of the three French kings who lived there until the French Revolution added improvements to make it more beautiful.
Apart from the fact that the French kicked some *$*! and got the royalty out ... the inside is extremely ornate and impressive!
