⚠️ CARBON MONOXIDE DOESN’T TAKE THE SUMMER OFF
Carbon monoxide poisoning is often associated with winter heating, but summer activities can also create dangerous exposure.
Generators, charcoal grills, camping stoves, boat engines and other fuel-burning equipment all produce carbon monoxide—a gas you cannot see, smell or taste.
Protect yourself and your family:
Never operate a generator inside a home, garage, shed or other enclosed space.
Place generators outdoors, more than 20 feet from windows, doors and vents.
Never use charcoal grills or fuel-burning camping equipment indoors or inside a tent.
Keep swimmers and passengers away from boat-engine and generator exhaust.
Install and maintain carbon monoxide alarms in homes, boats and recreational vehicles.
Symptoms may include headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, chest pain or confusion. On a boat, these signs can be mistaken for seasickness.
If you suspect carbon monoxide exposure, move everyone into fresh air and call 911. Do not re-enter the area until public-safety personnel confirm it is safe.
