Making (electromagnetic) waves in the Lowcountry ๐๐ด
Clemson University was just named a founding partner of the NSF Grid Modernization Engine in the Carolinas, an effort to modernize the nationโs electric grid. This effort will take place at Clemson's Charleston Innovation Campus, which is not only a home to our graduate programs in disciplines like Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Digital Production Arts, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Systems Engineering, but is also home to the Dominion Energy Innovation Center. The Innovation Center will be where the applied research necessary to advance modern energy systems within this project will take place!
This NSF Grid Modernization Engine was 1 of only 12 selected out of 300 entries. The project has over 100 public and private partners. And there is an initial $15 million investment over two years, with the potential for up to $160 million over the next decade. That all means more opportunities for our graduate students and faculty in Charleston!
