Do you have drone images that you want to process into geospatial products? Are you interested in creating your own orthomosaics and 3D meshes? Now, you can do all of that and more right in ArcGIS Pro! Clemson students, faculty, and staff now have access to ArcGIS Reality for ArcGIS Pro, along with all the 2D and 3D capabilities. Happy Mapping!

Check out this 3D model of the historic Clemson Carriage, used by Thomas Green Clemson! First constructed in 1858 and restored to pristine condition, we used LiDAR to scan and model the carriage, and replicated it in a scale 3D printed model. LiDAR is an incredible resource for documenting and preserving history!

GeoAI & Spatial Statistics: Helene’s Forest Fuel Footprints 04/28/2026

We are delighted to announce that Sabyasachi Kar, a Ph.D student in Forest Resources, has been selected to be the ESRI Innovation Program Student of the Year for Clemson. His work uses GeoAI, remotely sensed data, and spatial statistics to assess wildfire risk around the city of Asheville following Hurricane Helene. Check out his project here: https://arcg.is/1qHjLS4
Congratulations, Sabyasachi!

Last week, CCGT hosted students from Legacy Early College in Greenville. These students took part in a series of hands-on activities to learn about what we do here at Clemson. Whether they were exploring online mapping, digging in to our terrain mapping sandbox and VR setup, or heading outside to see a drone in action, it was a blast to have such an awesome group come to visit!

Let’s take a minute to celebrate our fantastic CCGT interns! This semester, we had THREE amazing students working with us to support our GIS workshops and projects, each bringing their own skills and perspectives to our center. Alli Healy played a huge role in the GIS workshops—fielding questions, grading, and making sure our attendees had a positive experience—and worked with a local trails organization to make local history visible through maps and geospatial web apps. Christian Herrman drove our exploration of geospatial AI capabilities and enhanced analysis by exploring new technologies and AI frameworks to speed up processing workflows and create deep-learning models to detect peaches from high-resolution drone imagery. Ryan Statkiewicz helped with ongoing efforts to manage GIS data stored in ArcGIS Online and performed statistical analysis on a massive dataset of GPS points recording the locations of cows to understand movement patterns within their experimental area. We couldn’t do it all without the hard work of our amazing team!

It’s been a busy semester here at CCGT! We provide guest lectures on GIS topics, and classes across many departments and disciplines have taken us up on this opportunity. Recently, our GIS Analyst, Grisha Post, gave a lecture on Geospatial AI, highlighting the imagery classification and object detection capabilities of ArcGIS Pro. What a great way for students to see the wide range of tools available to them and test them out in a hands-on setting!

It’s always a treat to see some of the advanced and fascinating tricks that can be done with cartography! A huge thank you to our GeoAmbassador, Dr. Madeleine Bolick, who led a special workshop to cover designing map figures for reports and research articles, working with legends, advanced cartography, and more! In Maps that Speak: Turning GIS Data into Professional Figures, attendees were able to go beyond what we normally cover in the GIS Fundamentals Workshop Series to see how to make their maps that much more impactful. Many thanks to all who attended and to Dr. Bolick for making this possible!
